with the threat of an ice storm the last of the houseguests moved out early this morning- now to pick up the pieces, do laundry and put life back in order - with the New Year I am wanting to do all those things I have been putting off, we'll see how far I actually get. Garden is quiet and lonely looking}} |

been getting far! and today I'm putting regular work aside so I can rip wallpaper off of the kitchen walls the garden has is coated with a thin hard layer of ice with a sad excuse of a layer of snow on top - Spring is around the corner somewhere... |

Quiet, nice and quiet - unexpectedly so as it is only Hannah, Evee and Myself here. Only got about halfway through taking photos and that took most of the day... Now to wrap some things for tomorrow. The wallpaper is off but I never did get the ceiling washed and it looks like there is no help coming on the things I can't do so haste isn't an issue anyway :( Nothing much is happening in the garden, the only thing pretty nowadays is the wreath on the garage glowing through the dark hours like a huge sprinkled donut :) |

Ceiling is washed and I may proceed into the stairwell, basement landing and laundry area - then I can start taking wallpaper off if that space. Repairs hopefully will happen in the kitchen today - I ordered new beaded sheers, and am anxious to move forward BUT if not, I have the ingredients to play around with some new recipes - some running today - lots to do! meanwhile, in an effort to brighten up the winter, I used a garland that was a Christmas gift from SIL along with some rescued sugared fruit to re-do the window box, usually I have pine branches from the bottom of the christmas tree but there weren't any this year - short on a snow this winter too - but the season is far from over - when weather gets warmer I hope to make a field trip to Como to stock my new 2005 garden file with new photos - I better get in the tub, the day is starting without me!

after errands and lunch across the river much work was done in the kitchen, meanwhile I did my regular work and did manage to try one new recipe which turned out ok but not good enough to repeat. More running tomorrow and hopefully I will get to the other recipes. |

It is still uncomfortably cold out but no matter - I am staying in today - the day got away from me yesterday and hopefully things will get back on track today! Sunny out and it will be nice to have Hannah home with me :) |

Hannah and I did sample a new recipe (with basmati rice pineapple raisins lemon peas and fresh tomato with an Indian spice paste) for lunch - while watching Texas Justice - it was OK - I would try it again but change the amounts of ingredients a little bit - then for dinner the Thailand Sweet "sticky" rice cooked in coconut milk formed into a cake served with strawberries was pretty good, good without any fruit too- I will make that one again - and a chicken dish that was kind-of blah. this cold weather has had my shoulders aching since mid-morning- summer! where are you? The sun was nice to see at any rate and I hope my car will start tomorrow - packages to deliver have really piled up. no monday child today :( and the garden is dismal all except for the snow that sparkled on the patio table |

Some sad news today - my Monday child's grandfather died over the weekend - he was just recovering well from a stroke and this was unexpected - He has been more of a father-figure really -- grandma and grandpa have been the most stable people in her life - this will be a tough one...

Monday child is here and hurting, she is trying to not let it show but having been there myself, I know exactly how she is feeling... poor kid! They gave us the wrong paint for the kitchen - pale pink, I don't think so... Felt so warm today and the sun was bright - |

lot has happened since I posted - kitchen is freshly painted and put back together - Christmas tree is out of the house - Lots of cleaning today - there was a lot of plaster dust in the dining room - lots of dusting sweeping and vacuuming - plus regular work - full round of it - BLAH and the day isn't over yet - BUT I did sit outside by the fire and enjoyed feeling the cool moist air on my face and I will be taking a nap shortly to rest up for tonight's work- was a sunny morning - has clouded over now but it sure sounds and feels like spring these last few days and that is so nice - makes me look forward to fitting out the yard with flowers come summer- I'll have to plan different colors for the kitchen window box now that the beaded "bordello" curtains are hanging behind it- later

Still sunny and still sick - but I stopped at Patrick's to get a forest tart to heat up in the oven at home that will be good comfort food. And I bought some seeds for summer: *Sweet peaches and cream corn (no more taking chances at the grocery store *Cinderella Pumpkins *Heavenly Blue Morning Glories *Purple Prince Zinnias *Green Zinnias *Lilliput Zinnias *Love-in-a-Mist (I have never tried these before) *Aloha Mix Cornflowers *Regular mix Cornflowers and I forgot to get peas and sunflowers - another trip another day and a discounted Valentine's purple violet to replace the one Hannah tried to give me that died while waiting for Christmas. Tart is done and back to work...

feeling better :) it was sunny today so I went back and bought the rest of the seeds for spring and took some nice photos while I was there: Evening Sun Sunflower - warm earthy tones Velvet Queen Sunflower - dark velvety-crimson color Sugar Daddy Pea - prolific sweet pods now to wait - Evee has had it with winter and literally sighs when we get more snow - poor baby - I know how she feels!
