...today should have been a bad day - headache, lost bracelet.. looked for, then found crushed beyond repair - it had been run over a few times... not feeling well, but yet the good in the day surmounted all. The weather was warm enough to not need a coat, rain in the evening that smelled so good, work went well, rainbow over the yard, sunset hiding it's gold behind the trees as the pink crabapple was planted - I am looking forward to seeing how it will grow, looks real pretty so far. In the gardens one pumpkin seedling is revealing itself - small iris and violets are blooming - I played with Evee outside - she is feeling better today - she gets sore before it rains with arthritis I believe, so many past injuries :( Lemon cake will probably be gone before the night is over, perfect day for it.

busy day ... running this morning then was taken shopping at a garden center where some new things were purchased for the yard;
pretty fence to help keep Evee out of the zinnias, corn and sunflowers
made a new area for tomatoes and chives - put in one regular and 2 Italian plum - the chives where getting overcrowded where they were so hopefully they will like this new spot - complete with fence to keep Evee out..
love the look of having a potted geranium out here - a favorite spot in the yard - right outside this area were planted 5 new delphiniums with hoops around to protect from Evee..
and the new (old) huge trellis went up with purple clematis that hopefully will take - I have never tried one before There are a couple of spaces left for Evee in the garden, one behind the iris and one behind the doghouse - she needs the cool dirt to lie in and a place to be hidden. I pulled up one bushel of weeds as well and now am tired - soon, soon a nap - YAY! |

Company showed up early - food not ready yet - me with no make-up on , hair still in yesterday's braid... just like my sister! Oh well, I snuck off and finished getting myself together - then food was on the table within 15 minutes - simple siberian iris made a nice centerpiece, I had wanted to take photos but was caught unuexpectedly and so did not get a chance - the silver is now polished and ready to be put away, I think everyone had a nice time but company left too soon it seemed. Looking forward to a relaxing evening - the weather is great and the sun came out, should be perfect for Improv in the park later - no cooking! just pack up some leftovers to take with. I think I will go out right now and pick some garden to bring indoors (really just avoiding work..) } |

the Improv got rained out :( oh well, they will be there every non-rainy Sunday for the rest of the summer - and so will we! Sunny hot day - got a good start on gardening, 3 planters done and 1 window box - so much more to do but the mosquitos chased me inside. I always think the names they put on flowers are fun - here are some of what was planted today; Penny Lane Mix -- Evening Glow -- Blackie ? Sweet Potato Vine (I love these!) -- Montevideo -- Fantasia Pink Shell -- Schoene Helena -- Merlot Mix -- Sassy Dark Red -- Charmant -- Samba -- Rocky Mountain Violet -- Pinto Coral Hope no rain tomorrow so I can do more gardening :) |

Was up early and got some gardening done before it poured rain on me -- then later this afternoon did some more between loads of laundry -- Front yard is finished with 3 planters and geraniums around the Swamp Elm, finished also is the side of the house to the north and most importantly around the top of the egress window surround so I have something to look up at when I am in my workroom (dungeon). This year I am throwing colors together without any care -- pinks, reds, violets, corals, salmons, with splashes of white and yellow here and there ~ looks like a party is going on and I love the result. More fun flower names; Carneval -- Celebration Rose -- Melody -- red Fox -- Riviera Mix -- Candy Rose -- Designer Violet -- Non-stop Scarlet -- GoGo Orange -- Seaside Mix -- Bright Eye -- Tango Pink -- Cascade Pink -- Bravo -- Shocking Violet -- Avenida Mosaic -- Sassy Dark Red Hot and humid, my back aches - must be nap time!

DD just put some cooling lotion on my sunburn - no aching back today. I did not get as far as I had hoped but what I did looks good - brightens the yard in a happy way and I put some marigolds around the tomatoes and chives - I see the baby rabbit has been eating the peas... -- with storms through the night I did not even think I would get out there today so am pleased. more fun names; Discovery yellow -- Flamingo -- Pacifica Blush -- Patriot Watermelon -- Fantasia -- Figaro Mix -- Hello Mix

Finally done! the back yard is all planted -- as much as it will be anyway. Now to just trim and water and watch things grow. DD helped me shop for the large pot - nice way to keep the pansies from the rabbits (I hope) Coffee break is over, back to work...

Yesterday I was out trimming the garden and noticed that the dang rabbit has eaten all of the peas and has a good start on the gerber daisies -- when I get 2 minutes I will have to move those up to my window box. So far the pansies in all of the planters are uneaten - as long as the rabbit doesn't grow wings I think they will be safe. The roses are all in bloom and look healthy - still doing laundry and the sun has made it out today so I have things on the line, hope they all dry before the sun goes down -- back to work...

weekend plans seem to have gotten flip-flopped around so I find myself alone for a spell - took a tour of the garden, it is hot so I was not motivated to move or trim plants but I did enjoy seeing all in colorful bloom. The blackberries are already turning, time is going too too fast! A male cardinal stopped in the gazebo for a spell, I did not know they had dark blue and purple under feathers.

Hotter than heck today - had to knuckle under and put the air on as it will be in the mid-90's :( Brought in some exotic pale orange lilies for the dining room table -- the red roses are doing great as usual and I need to pick new bouquets to bring in. Yesterday I had brought Martha a nice mixed bouquet - good to see her back from vacation :) Garden still looks great but summer is going too - too fast - I need to do some photo work so I suppose I should get out there before it becomes too oven-like ~ sigh ~
