sunny and cloudy by turns today - not too hot but things needed to be watered which gave me the chance to see how pretty everything is, brought my work outside and also enjoyed breakfast and a fire on the patio. Evee is enjoying the yard -- it is nice to think of it being a safe place for her after what her life has been so far. :( "Garden of healing" My Mary Rose still is not budding out but the pink climbing rose put in last year is doing very well.

so hot here, in the 90's for several days now and more to come. Yesterday my garden had company, my Mom and Brother paid a visit and my brother helped me out with identifying the corn, now I just need to get out there and pull up some weeds to give it breathing room. I have a few tomatoes coming along and in spite of the heat everything is still blooming nicely, so much color this year :) The phlox are just coming out~ always love that warm honey scent! |

More visiting in the garden today with my brothers -- after pulling weeds there are only 4 corn stalks there :( We took a side trip to Lake Harriet Rose Gardens ~ even in the heat everything is blooming nicely;

The heat is still sweltering here and the humidity is too much -- yesterday early I trimmed out some of the shrubs and overgrowth in the front of the house, I still need to trim back the hydrangeas and sweep everything good, I think I might get out there and do that soon while it is still somewhat cool. The trumpet vine is blooming now and the garden is skittering with chipmunks and butterflies but too hot to be out there for any length of time. Lots of plans for when it does cool down

not much changes -- I am hanging laundry out again today. I have been working outside more - I swept the patio, several blocks are crumbling but a good cleaning does improve them anyway -- so many seeds I planted never made it this year, I think it was that late frost :( and I haven't been out to weed enough but am clearing sections now. I replaced some bare spots with red geraniums, salvia, daisy mums and pink petunias. Blooming now: tons of colorful annuals of course, the pansies are still hanging in there -- blue delphinium, meadow rue, orange tiger lilies, phlox and the red roses are thinking about doing another round. Thanks heavens the mosquitoes seem to have died in the heat ((I hope they don't come back!)) Lots of butterflies in the garden
and the crickets are singing in the evenings and one dove in the afternoons -- I found a lavender edged african violet to replace one I had lost, so am happy about that. hot and humid still -- and waiting for things to cool down some! |

no gardening today as I had hoped but I was outside with work so I was able to enjoy seeing the butterflies and noticed there are lots of tomatoes coming along.

Too hot for gardening today but I did take a walk around and found an unexpected daisy -- the morning glory vines are growing nicely, I think the garden will look nice going into fall. Tomorrow will be a hot drive out to Mom's but I hope to get some good photos :)

Never did get to the track :( woke this morning to sweaty people running down the street, I think there were over 1000 runners this year. Later I found some time to get out in the yard, started a fire on the patio and had Hannah peel dry stems off of tulip bulbs while I picked up sticks that fell off of our swamp elm during the storm and clipped back dead blooms and watered the planters and hanging baskets. Hannah and I also played some badminton without getting injured! butterflies are still here and the joe pyeweed is blooming, also picked the first 2 tomatoes.
Been a nice day in spite of the anxiety and sleeplessness that I guess I am going to have to get used to. POOP!

Another laundry day, it is sunny out and with my meds I am not supposed to be out in the sun, so trips out to the clothesline are quick as can be. Only 3 more days and I am done with this and hopefully I will be feeling well again. Still not sleeping well and I will be lucky to get the minimum of work done today. In spite of all, it was fun to see what is new at the Renaissance this year and hopefully next weekend I will be feeling much better and more rested. Purchased for the garden were 2 swirled hand-blown glass balls that I attached to candlestands to flank the gazebo entrance. Sicadas are singing and weather is pleasant today -- back to it

Pleasant weather today -- enjoyed a fire on the patio while I did some sewing outside~ I also made an arrangement of red roses and vines to bring to some friends at festival for their shop. Lots of butterflies and with recent rain all of the flowers look good. Still trying to find things to ease some symptoms I am having, I think I have had some good luck, one thing is definitely helping the anxiety level, now to find things that work for the other problems...

a couple more nice days in the garden~ yesterday I did plant those crocus bulbs and re-potted a couple of houseplants and enjoyed a fire outside. This morning I put together a small arrangement to bring to the Post Office and now this afternoon finds Jan next door playing the piano and all is peaceful with nothing happening but the tomatoes thinking about turning red. Back to not sleeping well -- 2 steps forward and one step back -- I think I am making progress overall, at least I am learning a lot! I wish my grandma were still alive, she knew all the ins and out of medicine, both folk and 'professional'.

I guess it is a pattern to wake up at 2, 4, 5 and then finally at 6. At least now I am falling back asleep in-between the early awakenings. The seeds I planted were a disappointment, I must have planted them too early and a frost must have ruined them, all of my hopes for dark red sunflowers, exotic zinnias, cosmos etc.. were for nothing. But the shade garden along the driveway with the new pot container still looks great, I weeded it out yesterday morning. Hopefully I will have better luck with seeds next year. I planted blue morning glories too but only dark pinks are blooming... I have been putting out Niger seed and now there are chickadees and goldfinches in the yard so that is fun and new.
