I suppose I should confess to having created a monster..

My porcelain berry vine has somehow snuck its way up into the neighbors scrub tree behind their shed and then crawled out over the wires.. what a huge (but beautiful) mess!

It has been raining non-stop since yesterday afternoon.

Friday I had scoured Bachman's for more end of the season bargains for the new garden space. I can't believe how much it will take to fill this space and with it being mostly shade it is a challenge. I found some more coral bells and Asian lilies and a few other things. I decided to call this the Asian Garden and it will be a space created for Hannah. It will be fun to bring her shopping for garden accents.

I'm taking the day off of work! With Hannah home we need to brush up on her Japanese later and this morning I planted all of the things I had bought before:

4 Coral Bells -- Northern Fire (dark red), Chatterbox (pink), Marmalade (orange-red leaves with dark flowers), Chocolate Ruffles (dark leaves with light pink flowers)

4 Lilies -- Pisa (bright yellow Asiatic), Orania (pale orange Oriental Garden Lily), Aladdin's Dazzle (pale yellow hybrid)Madrid (warm orange hybrid)

Japanese Painted Fern -- dark leaves

Hosta Hybrid 'So Sweet'

Snowflakes -- white bleeding heart

Tiarella Mint Chocolate (white foamflower)

Tricyrtis Hirta 'Tojen' (Japanese Toad Lily) white-pink flowers

The roots were prolific to dig through but the space looks good enough now to leave alone for this season and now I need a nap!!

Off shopping again..I keep forgetting to get important things! I hope to stop at Bachmans again and pick up some pansies to fill in the blanks around here where things have died out from the heat. They should last into the cool weather well. The weekends are unusually hot still, keep hoping for cooler weather but upper 80's and 90's predicted again this weekend :(

Hannah is doing so well in school this year and making me proud, this year she plans to go to home-coming so it will be fun shopping for a dress.

I had better get moving -- before it rains

Kind of a grey day today and I am taking a break from work. I took Evee for a walk in the neighborhood and it is nice to see how improvements are being made to houses and landscaping.

I spoke too soon about the no blue morning glories, one vine of pale blue large blooms are growing at the entrance to the gazebo.
A nice surprise

And I only bought a few pansies for my window box, some unusual black ones, 2 blue and a pretty 2 tone rose color, probably silly at this time of year.

I also put in 3 perennials by the gazebo, 2 'Ruby Star' cone-flowers and 1 'Indian Summer' gloriosa daisy rudbeckia.

So much for leaving it alone! I planted some spring bulbs in Hannah's new garden space; White grape hyacinths 'Album' and Pink Wood Hyacinths and 3 giant 'Gladiator' Allium in the back yard side garden.

Still very much summer here, the garden seems to be at a peak with color everywhere.

Took Evee for a walk again today and I enjoyed seeing the neighborhood flowers and took note of a mourning dove while Evee was leaving messages and keeping a squirrel-count.

I picked Hannah up from school half-way through the day - she wasn't feeling well and I am secretly happy to have her home with me, I miss her when she is at school. She is feeling better now. :)

Spent some time in the yard trimming out dead blooms and cutting back phlox, I filled a bushel basket and called it a day. I discovered that the tomato vine has grown all the way to the roof of the gazebo and tomorrow I hope to make chili with the tomatoes from the garden. Nice sunny day

It's been one of THOSE days... Had to drive to school twice because Hannah forgot her lunch, got dinner put together and set aside alright but while Mom and brother were visiting a relative nearby I had a half hour arguement with a city worker who wanted to mark our one big tree for removal, he refused to believe that it is a Swamp Elm, was tested last year and does NOT have Dutch Elm's disease.. I managed to get him to delay but what a complete jerk he was. I was proud of myself though, usually I crumble in those situations...

When company returned we made a fun side-trip to Bachman's garden center and bought a couple of flowering plants for indoors, and I was startled by a live squirrel that seems to frequent the birdseed aisle on a daily basis. Apparently he is a welcome visitor :)

Later we had dinner and it was nice but company had to leave early to try to outrun a storm, we are sitting here under threatening weather conditions.

Garden looked nice earlier but too hot and mosquito-y for visiting outdoors much.

I hope to get to do some gardening before too long.

My brother's violet from Bachman's is doing well in it's new home and my fall mum is trying to brighten up my too-messy kitchen. I found 2 tiny pumpkins started on the vine, I think it is way too late for them to amount to anything by Halloween, we'll see. Hopefully we will get good news this week from the arborist.

Another busy Monday and I am sad that the renaissance is over :(

Good news from the arborist - our tree does NOT have Dutch Elm's disease and will stay put. YES!!! It does have a weird fungus that doesn't have a known treatment at this time but the fungus doesn't spread so I guess we will see what kind of nutrients we can put in the ground to help it out.

I picked some marigolds and asters for the kitchen - rainy morning but it is clearing off now and I need to get moving along to Petsmart and the book store.

Busy monday as usual... feeling rather unsettled with things out of the normal routine, I'm doing my best to adapt..

Evee and I discovered together on our walk that the neighborhood has been invaded by scarecrows.

Over the weekend I cleared another bushel from the garden, it feels so nice to get out there in the garden and I hope to get out there again while the days are still nice.

I pulled the metal tag off of the tree.

It has taken a week for my husband to get the new hard drive up and working but there are still frustrating glitches.. I lost all of my garden post photos so I'll have to start over (again) Spent most of the morning scouring the web to gather up family photos but I did transfer what I found to CD, so much was lost though :(

Was a sunny day, I did gather some garden photos but as we are heading into winter, what a time to lose those pictures!

Out to the country tomorrow, with a charged up camera - it will be good for the spirit to see family and the great wide open.

Got out today with the camera to take photos to replace those lost - was a beautiful day, busy though. Hung out laundry and a full days work plus shopping twice, dinner, chauffeur duties. OH and I planted the mum, it wasn't doing very well in the house so hopefully it will come back outside next year.

Back at it - everyone retired early so I guess I can get ahead a little bit or caught up -- it's all a circus anyway isn't it.

has it been 9 days? the weather has turned cooler but today is sunny -- I am having trouble getting to work, probably because I overdid it yesterday. Evee saw 2 of her friends on the walk today and we noticed there are more scarecrows creeping out here and there.

My husband started hacking down the porcelain berry mess, it had gotten all tangled with trees of 2 neighbors but they gave him the go ahead. SO we were out there until it was too dark to work and only a 1/3 of it is down. I will miss the privacy it created and hopefully the trim back won't kill it -- but even if it does, I have another porcelain vine in a different corner YES!! I had no idea it could get out of hand the way it did!

I need to get to work

the porcelain berry mess is pretty much all chopped back, now to put in some supports. I gathered up all of the glass do-dads and put them in the garage and rolled up the clothesline for the winter. Evee saw 3 of her friends on the walk today which is good because she had a lonely day, we had been out and about shopping and such for too long. It's been a cloudy day and is raining lightly this evening.
