I'm relatively new to gardening and to Garden Buddies, but I love it so far. I suppose I'll start by introducing myself and telling you how I became addicted to roses. I'm Jessica. I'm a Texan trapped in North Carolina. There are worse places to be, I suppose. hehe But, both my husband and I, are Westerners (he is from Colorado), so we had difficulty adjusting to the East for the first few years (the humidity UGH). We have 2 children--a 13 year old and a 2 year old. Both are boys. We've also got 3 cats; Kyndall (an 8-year-old Maine Coon who prefers the great outdoors), Kier (an 8-year-old Tuxedo female who prefers the comfortable indoors), and Aleksi (a not-even-1-year-old Russian Blue mix male who prefers to stay inside and taunt Kier). Oh, and the other child, my husband's 1927 Ford Roadster pickup. Gardening was introduced to me by the notorious HGTV. At first, I thought "wow, curb appeal". So I ran with it. And I enjoyed it. That was 3 years ago. And, as the plants grew, I realized something I'd never expected-- I was good at this! After a failed houseplant experiment 10-odd years ago, I thought I lacked the natural Taurus green thumb. I have it--however, it appears to be limited to outdoor plants only. haha So, the front yard became beautifully landscaped... And then came the "now what!?!" There was no more room.... So I dug up a large section of grass on the sunny side of the house and, because they had done well in the acidic clay that is our soil, I went with roses again. And they are thriving!! Even though I had to overplant the garden due to a problem with fire ants where I'd intended to plant half of the babies--just couldn't risk them near those chemicals and couldn't leave them in pots much longer.... |
