but I am ready to explode & when that happens, I will be heard for miles because I have a TON of built up anger towards a few people on my street. I keep to myself, why can't they just mind their own business & keep to themselves?!

AMEN to that!!! You remind me of myself...When we first moved out here, I purchased several solar stars and had placed one out by our mailbox, next to our driveway. We live out in a very rural area and there are no street lights...very dark...the light stayed out for less than an hour before one of the neighborhood kids snagged it...they moved it down to the pasture driveway of my neighbor...found it at dark when it lit...put it back and the next afternoon it was gone again...I went ballistic...told DH I was ready to start shooting...never saw that one again...put another one out there and when it disappeared, I was out in the middle of our street screeching at the top of my lungs for them to keep their xxxxxxxx kids the xxxx off my mailbox. I think we had lived here a week...haven't had any problems with kids on my mailbox stealing my lights since...haven't put another star out there either...guess the neighbors think I'm nuts...hahahaha, if it keeps them away...works for me!! But as I told DH, if we lived in town and I had put that out, yeah, I'd be an idiot, it would walk away in less than three minutes in our old neighborhood...but doggonit, we live on a dead end rural road that mostly people who live out here are the only ones traveling it...five acre lots make the neighbors far enough away and our place sits 300 feet off the road with woods between us and the neighbor to the east and a pasture between the west neighbor...brush and trees block my house from the road until you are at the end of my driveway.

I think my hibiscus might actually bloom this year since it is getting sun now that I've taken the tree down...we'll see

Depends on the variety from what I've seen with mine. My oldest stepson brought me cuttings early this spring from several different types...he works on a power company tree crew...they rooted and I now have two sitting under the Bottle brush tree and both are in bloom at this time. Water is a big thing with mine...even my bucket starts which are in shade have bloomed several times. I've got two in the ground in an area that gets quite a bit of sun and have seen one bloom from only one...they don't get the same amount of water as the rest...we have soaker hoses out there and when I run them regular, the hibiscus grow well, they are three seasons old.

That is good to know, as I haven't been watering mine much since it was looking so good this year, as compared to the previous couple of years. (This is about the 3rd year for mine as well).

The cuttings that DS brought to me are still very small...only about 10-12" and since I've been watering very regular, and the daily rains now, they have amazed me by setting buds and blooming. The "bucket starts"...those were pieces I pruned and couldn't bear to toss...so I stuck them in a bucket and would you believe they have rooted and bloomed several times in their water...I really need to get them in the ground or a pot, just don't know where I really want them...the parent plant has been moved several times, DH rescued it from a demo job and we brought it here when we moved three years ago. Full sun all day long...the hummers visit it almost daily and the butterflies are always hovering.

There is a cat & 2 dogs that roam freely and they tend to roam freely in my yard & I constantly chase them away

In one of the books by Jerry Baker I read that to keep cats especially from digging in your plants...place prescriptions bottles in the ground, almost to the top of the bottle, around the plant beds and fill the bottles with household Ammonia...cats don't care for the ammonia...could help deter whatever else it might be digging in there as well...dogs aren't real fond of the smell either!!(me either for that matter...lol)

Yes, I will definitely begin to make sure it is watered regularly now! Thanks!

huh, I've never heard of that one...I will definitely try it. I am about ready (ok, well I am way past ready) to sit on my porch with my pistol!

You don't know how many times I've wanted to take the screens out of my windows, aim & pull
Flowerfreak Posted on Monday, June 30, 2008 - 08:41 am:   Last Buddysize PhotosCopy highlighted text to new message Edit Post Delete Post Print Post

Before I went to clean Friday night, I worked in the yard some. I happened to glance at something that caught my eye up near one of my back windows. Here, someone had thrown/hit a rock from the RR tracks through my screen & broke my window. I am done being nice. The kids will NOT play in my yard & they will NOT come in my yard to get their balls, goggles, or whatever ends up in my yard. I have a feeling this was done by one of two neighbor's sons, or my other neighbor's grandson. I have seen them hitting rocks before with their bats, but just not towards my house. Is it wrong to assume it was them & not someone else who just decided to throw a big rock through my window? I find it odd that I have not seen the kids out lately since this, nor have I seen one of the parents. I shall have to have a little talk with my neighbors when they all get the guts to show their faces again.

Over the weekend I found a pincushion flower plant for $5. I thought it would be a great butterfly attractant & a needed addition to the flower bed I put it in. I moved a few plants around in that bed before I was satisfied. I am sure I will move them all again, but it's good for now :)

I also found some more PI. I guess now I can see why I could have gotten it by pulling weeds around the yard. It could have been small enough at the time that I didn't see it & could have easily brushed my arm/hand up against it. Hopefully I've found the last of it.

Wow, I am so sorry that you have to deal with that sort of thing. I hope this falls into Anne's (Valia's) category of "what comes around goes around". Take the rock and have it fingerprinted. Or DNAed. LOL. ((LISA))

Take the screens out??? You mean "That's an option???" LOL...I've been known to pop a few holes in brand new screens (much to DH's dismay and utter horror!!)shooting squirrels from the birdfeeder, neighbors' cats near my birdfeeders, etc...using the pellet gun though. Have given serious thought of shooting my .22 cal at offenders through the screen...there's something wrong with that???LOL

Flowerfreak wrote on Monday, June 30, 2008 - 08:26 am:

WOW...that would throw me over the edge I'm afraid...wouldn't matter what shift the neighbors worked, I'd be at their house banging on the door...we had a similar incident at our old house...the kid from the house next door was shooting BB's...supposedly at the privacy fence between their backyard and my driveway...shattered a double pane door glass...DH went to speak to the parents as it was evident where the shot originated...that door was commercial grade and to replace the double pane glass (at cost) was almost $200...the parents couldn't understand why we didn't just replace the door (it would cost less)...made me see red!!...Let them know that if I heard one more bb bounce off my house, the law would be knocking next...what goes around does indeed come around...within a year, they were raided by the drug enforcement officers in the middle of the night...shortly after, they lost the house. No, I never did have to make a call, just happened on its own...we had many incidents in that house with vandals breaking in and destroying or stealing anything that wasn't nailed down...all while we were attempting to get it livable...and people wonder why I am willing to shoot first and ask questions later...might as well cut straight to the chase...hope things get worked out for you...file a police report and let them know about the things coming up missing also...next thing you know the brazen little fools could try to come inside.

It is so sad that I actually thought of that & wished it was so easy to pinpoint the little brat that did this.

lol, yes b/c if I take them out, they will stay out for that reason! I go shooting a lot at a friend's house & there isn't a screen ever in one back window & one front window for that reason. Great for shooting pestering varmints in the country-- and no screen holes to repair, lol!

HECK NO!

I'm just not "positive" it was one of my 3 neighbor's kids... and I am sure the parent's would believe their kids over me.

I just got a price on a replacement sash-- $160.00 :(

OUCH!!! Maybe worthwhile setting up a security camera to catch them in the act?? There are some pretty inexpensive ones out there. Know what you mean about the parents believing the kid...the neighbor acted like their kid was innocent until DH offered to have the cops come out and investigate...there were two bb holes in the window glass on that same side as the door...both could only have come from over the fence and I actually busted him in the act one day when he didn't realize I was home...sounded like he was aiming at the house intentionally as many times as it was hit...went ballistic as I came through that door to confront him...DH went over that night as well...the parents started out with...but he wouldn't do that...until DH let them know I had already confronted him about it...I'm not picky...come from an era of neighbors telling you to do something, you did it or else the parents would give you hell for not listening to the adults. Just a shame that the kids listen to NO ONE nowadays....not even their parents.

If you don't want to fork out money for a security cam, you could just toss your PI pullings outside of your yard... let everyone else enjoy them for a while. LOL.

OOOHHH that'll fix them!!! Could just plant the stuff with some Virginia Creeper as a "property line" border...and let it grow wild...

hmmmm, I'd consider that myself, but the biting critters love me way too much...lol...guess I'll just be replacing the screens when the holes get too large from shooting through them...Sis says I'm way too "redneck" about things like this...hahahaha, ok, if the "redneck" fits...sounds like I must be a "redneck girl"...been like this for as long as I can recall(ok, the senior moments might make that one inaccurate...memory is not good now)LOL

I already...umm, well, no comment. I will just let this one go. I was REALLY fed up the other day. Let's just say I did a really bad thing...

lol, I've been accused as well. I guess you could say I am the "black sheep of the family" (at least out of all my sisters...a couple of my brothers can be pretty redneck)

Stormdancer wrote on Monday, June 30, 2008 - 02:30 pm:

I have looked into that once before. I was contemplating doing so again. My brother got one from Wal-Mart. I was going to ask him how well it worked. I am sure I'd want them up all over the place, to catch every angle/view.

I wouldn't have that problem w/ one of the suspects. Yesterday evening, a cop pulled up in front of the neighbor's house. He had picked up the older brother for shoplifting. The mom has been calling the cops b/c her son won't come home & she doesn't know what else to do. Bad situation, but hey, not my problem...until they started doing things to my property.
