The Santa Ana seems to be dissipating,
I hope I hope!!!
Finished up putting up some
dill pickles, this weekend may do some
'bread and butter' pickles..
Also did up a few jars of
pickled beets..
Been awhile since I have canned,
it felt good to get to it again...

I have been cutting back roses,
to give them energy and such
as they don't stop blooming..
Have the front to get done today.
Been having very foggy mornings
the last few days. Makes it eerie
yet dramatic..
Everything so dry.... Next week
I hope to start with spreading mulch.

I have not been to this site for awhile..
I have been having major
computer problems.
many many virus,
a couple of worms.
WHY??? Who knows..
Very disgusting,
very annoying,
very costly.
Garden winding down or up,
I am not sure just what the
proper term
would be.
Lot of blooms right now.
I am slowly starting to
do the "Fall" mulching thing..
As much as my back will let me.
I don't come to gardenbuddies much any longer,
as I don't have the time,
along with the hassle of the computer acting up.
Hope all is well with everyone.

Just popping in for a quick
read and a few notes.
Very busy here.
With this wonderful rain
came a leaky roof for me.
In the master bedroom. The ceiling feel in places,
making quite the mess...
It's an old house,
and as they say,
sometimes you have to except loses.
Have a guy coming to tarp the
roof this morning,
until the rain stops, then will
check out the damage.
I can start to smell the
mold and Mildew setting in. Oh joy!
The garden is loving the water..

This last storm has cleared out..
I am getting estimates
for a new roof..
Don't want to deal with
this dripping mess any
longer than I have to.
Since I live on the side
of a hill, I have had no flooding.
Others on down have.
The sorry thing about Southern
California is when we do get rain,
almost always there is damage.
The garden is loving it.
the roses are blooming like
it is Spring.
Boy are they mixed up.
When I get time I do need to
mulch every thing well.

Going to work in the garden today.
Bought a truck load of mulch yesterday,
today will start to spread it.
Santa Ana blowing so it isn't going
to be easy.
Also have to be careful spreading it,
as the spring bulbs
are starting up..
Freesias coming up every where,
it just amazes me how much
they spread them selves around.
I would guess they get help
from the critters..
Still getting roofing bids.
Sure has been slow getting that done.
Posted on Tuesday, November 09, 2004 - 11:09 am:   Last Buddysize PhotosCopy highlighted text to new message Edit Post Delete Post Print Post

Tuesday
All the bids are in..The repair on the roof - I hope - will start soon.
Getting bids on having other work done around here also, might as well get it all done so I can enjoy it...
The garden has loved this rain we are getting..It is so Spring green all around now, it is so beautiful..
The hills have a lovely soft green coat, it makes it look so Spring time. Looks like we will have a "Green Christmas"...
I am not working much in the garden, my left knee didn't care much for me getting up on the roof in the rain..Whimp.......

Just dropping in.
Going to be a pretty day from the looks of the Sun rise...As I look to the North I see clouds, they are calling for more rain No matter....Just keeps the roof leaking:):) It will be fixed soon or more like later..One or the other..It is such a bother!
The garden how ever is loving it.The early Daffs are blooming, so many things feel it is Spring..The roses I just am so happy to see the blooms so fresh and lovely.
Yet out near the front steps under the flowering Pear it looks like Fall with the leaves falling..The pumpkins setting on the steps adds to the Fallish picture...Sweet!!!
This week will get the Steer manure spread in all the beds..That will put a 'odor' in the air...

Oh the green green hills of Southern California...

Its been a couple of months since I was here.
No matter...
Time has away of getting away from me it seems..
Roof has been repaired.
It will take time to repair the water and wind damage to the garden..
We don't get much rain here, but when we do like we have this year, it does damage.
I am not handling the word tragedies very well.... Or the sadness that is about.
I have a tendency to hide from it all..

What a week~~~
My Son got so much done, It is just wonderful to have all those chores done...Now I get to do the fun stuff, like make new curtains...
Then there is the garden......Oh My!!!!
That is going to take some muscle...For Sure!!!!
Bags and bags for steer manure to spread...
With the rain, up came hundred of bulbs, some are budding out already...I did get the roses cut back in between storms, now with 4 days of warm weather the are sprouting out fast...I am afraid with all the wet, there is going to be mildew on them...Will wait and see....
Then there is the weeds....That will take some time...A lot of time...I can feel the aching back already...:):)
The Flowering Pear burst into bloom ~ what a beauty!!!!
But the surprise was....this Tuberose...So lovely...Blooming now..I don't know why.So I am enjoying it!!!

I feel like the white rabbit in Alice in wonderland...I'm Late I'm late..No time no time...
Seems to be my theme any more..
I came down with a horrid cold, that has slowed me down..I am hoping it will be over and gone by the morrow...
Thing's to do..
The Daff's are blooming so nice, and so many of them...
It was funny I was talking to a friend back East saying I was having my front room chairs redone...She said "I would have thought you would have waited until Spring"...I laughed said "It is Spring here, Full on Spring"...
It is so nice to get so many of the things I wanted done here in the house and the garden done..I feel rich!!!
Life is good.....

Weather has turned very warm..
Roses are now burning, I spend a lot of time
deadheading.
Friend love the fact I am cutting
all the buds off and sharing them,They
love the huge bouquets...
I know the roses will acclimate before to long,
but in the mean time...snip snip snip!!!
Having to wear the back brace for a few more weeks,
I just have to give up getting up
on the patio lattice cover to cut back 'Sally Holems'...:(
Gardening has become such a pain for me..I am so disgruntled about this...In other words, I am having a *poor me' day...:):)
Until next time.
Cheers

We are deep into the *May Gray* weather here..
Overcast and dreary in the AMs ~ sunny and warm
afternoons ~ chilly in the evenings.
Causing mildew on the roses big time.
The garden looks like a jungle of flowers and green.
It needs help.:):)
I need to find someone to help in it...
Yet it is so pretty to sit out and enjoy it...:)
Cheers

Well I have had enough party time...Now to get back to everyday.
Weather has cooled some, the garden is holding up fine..Wish I could say the same for my self..:):):)
In April I was told I am in the third stage of kidney failure.
The reason I have that is because of all the Motrin I took for so many years for my back pain...
I now know I can control all this from getting worse by diet and excercise....That so far I have not found to be that hard to do..
It does make it rough on me for working in the garden, as we have not found any thing I can take for pain that will not harm my kidney's more...So I am trying to learn to live with the pain...Not Fun...

Hello Garden Journal;
My its been a long time old friends.
My garden is doing rather well despite
the neglect it has gotten.
I do have a yard clean up guy that comes
every week, which is a huge help to me.

I will be going up to EJs this Sunday
to meet Arlene a Gardenbuddie from New York,
very excited for this to happen..

I tried to post a photo of the garden,
Seems I have been gone to long
and have lost that knowledge to do so..:(:(

I do hope to be able to have more time
to come on gardenbuddies.
If not I still think of all the ones I know here...
Until next time
Cheers

Hello, Phyllis - I am so glad to see you again! You are so lucky to be going to see EJ and Arlene. I think we must all feel the same about our gardens - over planted (who can help it!), hard on the back, no time, but love it all the same! Have a great Gardenbuddy visit - and let us see some photos!

Phyllis..stay:)

Please find more time..I never even saw the above pic:(

Or the above post..
How are you feeling? Better?

I hope so.

And I also...
love the ensemble..The frame to the right is absolutely magnificent.
The smaller ones are probably sentimental words:)

I think of you often, Phyllis, and recall many of your postings. We are birthday buddies! I am still touched by the kindness of your neighbours when water was so premium and they wanted you to keep your garden healthy and offered you some of their quota. I'm so glad you popped by and said, "Hello!" You are missed.

Why Thank You Dear Gardenbuddies,
Julie, Miss Monique,And Diane..
Your messages are Dear to me..Thanks
It is very overcast here this morning.
'May Gary' it is called,
then we go into 'June Gloom'..
Fun...No...:):)
Causes Mildew on every thing..
As I was walking the upper garden this morning
I was smiling to my self, because the Clematis have really come into them selves now, after 6 years, they are glorious..:) I still have to cut them back 3 to 4 times a year, they come right back with a better bloom each time..
They could cheer up the crabbiest of crabs.:):)
I will have to re-learn how to post my photos here again..So I can share my garden..

I am playing 'catch up' again...
After a wonderful gardenbuddies meeting
at EJ and Karin lovely home..
I met Arlene and her family. That was fun.
The dinner we enjoyed was so good,
it was like dinning at a 5 star restaurant...
The most fun was getting to be together
and enjoying the company.
As I arrived I realized my cameras
batteries were dead! Oh Joy!
No time to do any thing about it then..
I knew Arlene and EJ would be
set up for photos so I didn't
worry about it..
'The Path' was there, waiting &
inviting us to walk on it.
I could see the work Ej had been
doing, as he also explained the
dilemma he had faced.
With working to get the Boat
back in the water for so long,
Honeysuckle had over taken the Path.
I could see the hours of labor they had done to remove it all.
The roses were in full bloom,
they were out-standing in all bloom.
My favorite this time was " Altissimo"
So in it's beauty.
I came home yesterday so a very
droopy looking garden. Most of the
potted plants were pretty sad looking..
So with lots of love, kind words,
some cussing and a whole lot of water
they are happy and perky again this morning..
Today I get to spread mulch and bark

over some if the rose beds..
We need more gardenbuddie meetings..
Cheers

Hello again Phyllis how are you now?I do hope you are in not too much pain and also taking plenty rest.

I so love your apricot begonia a real charmer.

I am getting the pleasure of coming to San Fransisco one night 24th August then next morning tour the grand canyon before coming back to spend some time in San Fransisco.

We had had cold wet weather for weeks now today the first day of sunshine in along time but still that cool air.

I keep saying fed up of this wet cold weather I expect it will be a little bit too hot when we arrive on vacation.

Phyllis you have a beautiful garden a real pleasure to see thankyou .

TGIF :)
I am living in 'weedville' what's up with that?
Today when I get back from Yoga, I will start spreading the bark in the rose beds..In hopes it will deter a weed or two..I won't hold my breath..
I am settling in after all the excitement of meeting Gardenbuddies... I had so much fun..Now it is just memories.. But GOOD memories.:)
Thanks Kathleen for the comments, I so hope your vacation here in California, is the hit of your time here..
My routine seems so dull now..
I do check out GB off and on now and again.. It is hard for me to fit every thing in..
GB is a fine place to visit and I do when I can.
So until next time........I have a *date* with 20 bags of bark...
Do I know how to have fun or what????

Wow time has once again got away from me.
A couple of Gardenbuddies emailed me about the Birthday wishes posted.
So of course I had to come for a look.
It is such a wonderful feeling to see them.
Yes this is my big 70 birthday
What can I say..
I do have the laugh lines to prove it..
I miss GB ....it is sometimes very hard for me to get here. But I think of about my buddies every day, mostly when I am in the garden....which is a lot!!!
