Went out at 6 Am, its now not as light at this time as it was awhile ago.I guess this is our sign of Fall coming... Looked at all the piles of weeds that need carrying down to the compost..Made me sad I can't do that much carrying any more.. But,Hey I hired someone to come do that for me. I will give them a try for a month. Hot and dry again today. Thunderheads building up to the South, means it will be humid. |

7:30 AM ~ Over cast and cool this morning, although when it burns off it will be hot and muggy. I am taking a small patch of garden bed at a time to weed. I have to stay very focused, if I look up and see all that needs to be done, I would start running around trying to do it all at once. Then I get nothing done. I did mark more plants last evening that I want to move as soon as it is cool enough to do so. Also marked a few thing that I will get rid of,I don't want to waste any more water on them. I hope to get a lot done this weekend Holiday.. |

The morning dawned clear as a bell,as my Gramma would have said.. There is a bit of a crisp feeling in the air this morning. I Deadheaded the upper garden roses. Totally forgot I was in my PJs until my neighbor waved and asked if I had been out there all night.. Checked out the damage done where the timer didn't shut off & the sprinkler, so it ran all nite....dang. Will have some work to do there. Why doesn't the Garden God send me a good garden helper???? I keep wondering that more and more.:) More weeding today until I catch up.Then...... I can start all over again. Last evening a small flock of wild Finch stopped by the garden, what a delight to sit and watch as they flitted around the garden to refueled on their trip South.

September 1. Monday..7:30 Am Overcast and cool this morning. Spent an hour weeding. Dug up 6 roses to move later on today. A couple of them may not make the 'cut' as they have never done much in the 3 seasons I have had them. Must think about conserving water. Digging up and thinning out the iris.. Have some garden friends coming to get some later today. Will also take some to friends..... Garden spiders weaving their webs across the garden....Fall is on its way. Time to get to my Yoga class.. |

9-2-03 9 AM Been out in the garden since 6..Took me all that time to do an hours work. Yard guys did a pretty good job of cleaning up, They were here for an hour. Watering the roses I transplanted. I cut them back so they should do just fine. Digging more Iris today. Found a huge infestation of Mealybug when I cut the pink Gaura back..what a mess. Ants every where. All the beds are dry. Will need to water today, I will use the soaker hoses. |

9-3-3 6:30 AM Cloudy this morning, calling for some rain.....I HOPE. Heavy dew on every thing. I did a quick walk through the garden. It is a jungle of Spider webs. Definitely a Fall feel this morning. I will have to take it easy today, over did it somewhat yesterday. So will just do a little deadheading this morning...See how the day goes..:) Have more Iris to dig and thin out. With luck and it rains, they will be easy to dig later.Come on rain... |

9-4-3 7AM Did not get any rain, sorry to say. Doesn't look like we will. Took a walk and look at the garden at daybreak, needs water. Much more cutting back and things to pull out, much more weeding. In the 4 years I have been here, this season has had the most garden spiders I have seen. It a good balance for this size garden. 'Tuffy' my resident Guard Hummer has been on duty and doing aerial battle with marauding Hummers to keep his garden free of other hummers. He is such a 'brat' lol.........

9-5-3 8:30 AM Friday I am moving slow this morning, a bit stiff. Yesterday I cut back 10 of the smaller 'buddleja' that were spent and done. Should get another small bloom on them later on..The bigger ones I think I will need the chain saw again to cut those back. Cut all the tall Yellow Yarrow back to the ground, now need to move some of it& get rid of some of it. Have some help coming today to help me, I am more than thrilled about this. As there is plenty to do, this clean up takes a lot of carrying. No rain, no clouds, it dawned clear and warm.... Going to be hot... Need to read up on pruning a couple of trees back too...... Best go knock down the spider webs where were going to be working this morning... I have to laugh at myself, if I sit to long idle they start weaving their webs right around me. I need heavier dew to get better photo's of them...:) Ah Nature! I have time so I will go take Yoga class, to work a few of the kinks out...:) |

9-6-3 7:45 AM. Good morning world... Can it get any warmer? Clear as crystal this morning. Have water going with the soaker hoses. I don't think I will get as much done as I had hoped to, I will just have to work in the shaded areas. Not that there is a shortage of stuff to do there. Suppose to have Jay come help me out again today. I hope he shows up. The Gerbers are all, out doing them selves with blooms. It amazes me, they really don't need as much water as I thought they needed. |

9-8-3 Monday AM So much for getting all things I wanted done over the weekend, to hot to stay out in it. Did get a few things done. The orange tree cut down & the grapes cut down. Will not waste water on them any more. The oranges were sour and buggy. The grapes the same. Both were here when we moved here,I have no Idea how old they were, although I do know they had not been watered for 5 years before I bought this place. Nothing on this place had been watered, from what the neighbors said. The grapes were the raccoons feeding/play ground...What a mess they made of that. So out it went. Thankfully Jay came over and cut them out for me. Then he also took the trailer and dumped it for me. The two roses I moved are struggling, I should have waited.I will wait to move the other 6... Bulbs are in at Home Depot, I bought 300 tulips and put them in the refer...Will plant after them Thanksgiving. Also bought 200 Daffs will plant those once it cools off here. I will never plant Pineapple sage again.. |

9-9-3 Tuesday AM Dawned cloudy and cool, What a treat for a change. I thought for sure it might rain, but no such luck by 9:30 the sun started peeking through, warming things up.Drats! Means I will have to water the upper gardens. I am now cutting back, & pulling out so much stuff, that have to take the trailer twice a week to empty it.My compost can't hold any more. At least I take it to green waste, they mulch it. I get free mulch from them....Nice deal.. More wild birds passing through these days, saw a few wild canaries this morning resting in the Flowering Pear tree. I came in to rest my self, the wind has come up I don't like working in the wind... Have more Iris to dig. also marked the Peonies I want to move once it is cooler. Most all the roses are giving a wonderful bloom, as are the Gerbers....I assume they have acclimated to the heat. This is why the show, makes for a nice reward, while I am out there weeding.....:)

9-10-3 Wen. AM Yet another slow down in the end of Summer clean up..The guys I hired to help me. Did no show up..Another one for the 'I need work, but oh my God do I really have to WORK syndrome' A lot of that happens any more. So its back to the drawing board. At least its cooler... I did some deadheading this morning early, later this afternoon will get more done. I am going to give it a rest, go take Yoga class. Then I will think about this, and decide just what to do about it all..:) |

9-12-03 AM Very foggy this morning, and cool. Friends came by early to pick up some of the Iris. I still need to thin out a lot more. Raked up some more of the mess I have made cutting things back. The bird have done a *great* job of redistributing Lantana all over the place..It is coming up just every where.Bless them... Thankfully Jeff the guy who use to do my yard, sent over a crew yesterday to pick up all the mess I had cut back and pulled out..That is a gift I will always cherish. Ahhhhh Friend's, I am blessed...:) He also found someone to come once a week for me....Yeah!!!!! The Blue Jays were sure upset at me being out in the garden this morning...wonder what their problem is? Cranky things anyway..

9-13-03 PM Been out there since 6;30.I am tired, Yet I still have to pick up and rake. Mostly did the beds in front of the kitchen window. The purple Potato vine was full of white fly.So I cut it back and sprayed the heck out of it with Rubbing alcohol and Ultra Fine. Sprayed all the cutting too. I will never get rid of them, as my neighbor has them on their Hibiscus, and do nothing to control them. The 2 Peonies that were near the potato vine, were showing signs of White fly, I have been going to move them, So I bit the bullet and dug them up...Man what a huge system the one has on it. No wonder it never bloomed, it was planted way to deep.. I will just have to hope they will make it... Break time is over.Back to the garden I go...:) |
