Dang if that darn truck of mine, just drove me to Home Depot, then on to a couple of nurseries.:)I tried fighting it, but it got the better of me...:):)
More bulbs....A few things to perk up some of the pots.
At 6:30 am. I was out cleaning the bank behind the gazebo. Interesting mess...Seem the kids next door, had made a 'hide out' of sorts there. No wonder the verbena 'bonariensis' was doing so poorly...The Day Lilies that were there, are no longer... LOL.... When they had their before school break, and seen me there, it scared them..(they are home schooled) I said to them "I will make you a deal, you stay out of the garden, and I won't go over to your yard and rip out your base ball diamond OK?..they agreed... Asked if I was going to talk to their parents, I reminded them that I had said I would give then 3 mess ups..They have one left.:) Boy's will be Boy's...I should know~I had enough of them....:)
Besides that, I have either one or two rampant Gophers tearing in the upper beds, From the size of the mounds,It's safe to guess they are very healthy..Have two cats stalking them....
I have no Idea who's cats they are, they just spend a lot of time in this garden...Yes!!!:)
Nice today. In the 80 but very pleasant...

Busy busy day.Early on did the deadheading, raked up , then (backwards as I am)I cut back a lot of penstemons, that left another mess..Then off to Yoga, then lunch...
Got home planted about 150 or more bulbs, ran out of Bulb Booster, so gave it up for the day.
Got a call from a friend, he is going to come help me with heavy stuff tomorrow, I am so delighted, The Garden~Gods are in my favor.:)
Will have to run early Tomorrow morn. to get more Bulb Booster, I think 50 lbs. should about do it.
Dug up 10 roses that I was not happy with, besides being in to much shade...Called a friend that is just starting to garden, she came to get them. And She was totally thrilled..Also unloaded Iris on her.:) Oh heck she was happy...:)
So happy with the way the pots I redid turned out, I really like the Sweet potato vines. I was lucky and found all three colors..:)
Now I just need to finish up with the deep watering the new trees...The ones Treanna & DH gave me are doing so well.....:) I am Blessed...:)

Moving very slow this morning, worked all day yesterday, got so much done.

Just about all the end of Summer clean up is done. What a relief.Took 2 trailer loads to the Green waste...

Today we are going to tackle the garage and garden shed. Jay also sharpened all my cutters.:):)

Plant more bulbs too, go more bulb booster.

I wore out 2 pairs of gloves weeding yesterday, they were cheap ones. Bought heavy duty ones for today..:)

All the buddlejas are now cut back. Some of the small ones I cut back last week are coming back and will bloom again.

I am so worried about everyone in the path of Isabel.....I pray all will be OK...

DONE...I just wanted to type that word...lol...For the day for the moment the end of Summer clean up it DONE. It just doesn't stay DONE...:):)
The garden sheds are cleaned out reorganized. tools gathered up, all sharpened, etc..
Now I can start anew.
I found Muscari bulbs yesterday and bought many many of them..So begins the restart of the garden for Fall. Plus all the other hundreds of other bulbs already planted.:):)
Today it may get back up into the 90s..Dang it..Will have to water, I am trying so hard to cut back on the water....
The pond area I totally redid, It was a 'Had to' Raccoons again destroyed it once again. This time put a small hole in the liner in the upper part.So I put Ammonia in the water for 2 weeks that is in the bottom of it..It just may deter them , as they are pretty smart. This is what it looks like now.
Upload
With hope they will leave it alone as long as I keep ammonia in it.....

9-22-03 PM

Here it is 2:30, just came in to cool off and get some water.I am hot, sweaty, and tired, and a tad cranky.....

Its like the middle of Summer today.

Most are getting ready for Fall, and I am weeding & weeding, Watering & watering, trying to keep things going.

Had to set the water going in the last of the beds I want to put bulbs in, so dry they are like cement.

The black Cat that hangs out in the garden, left me mice this morning. 3 of them...:)

Ah another busy day, more bulbs planted...
I was bad (or is that good)and bought more. I wanted more Daffs for the front beds.

I dug the Climbing Glory Lily up, thinking it was just 1...Oh my there were so many and of huge size. They are now spread out all over the garden.....

I let the yard crew go after they finished today. I have to have a crew that can haul stuff away. Thankfully Jim understood that, so he was very understanding.

I am trying a mix of rubbing alcohol and Ultra Fine, to spray for the white fly.. I have sprayed with it twice on the infected plants in the West upper corner of the garden... I think it is slowing them down. Will keep notes on it...

I am 'happy' tired, as it was a good day in the garden...
Now to enjoy friends that are coming over to get some flowers, and have snacks on the Lani...
A good day indeed.....:)

Yesterday was going to be a none gardening day. I was going to set in the Gazebo drink Ice Tea, and reflect on the garden..
Well I must be a pretty fast reflector, because within 20 to 30 mins. I wasn't seeing any thing but which roses needed deadheading.

This morning I decided to plant some butter beans around the old wooden ladder, I found in a junk shop..We will have hot weather for awhile longer, so why not try it..May just have a mess of butter Beans for Thanksgiving.:)

Now to finish up watering, all the pots need water. Also found a patch of weeds I some how missed while doing the *Big garden Clean-up*..

It is nice and cloudy from the fizzled out Hurricane up from Baja way.Thankfully it did fizzle once it came on land..
Good day to be in the garden again. Although they say we will not get any rain from this. All the rain went to Arizona...Rats!

Yesterday was good garden day. Got a lot done, fertilized every thing, watered it all in well. Replanted some of the Blue Irises out front. Topped the Apricot and lemon trees.
These trees were here when I moved here, I don't know how old they are, they both produce, the lemon is very prolific..
The Apricot has got to come out, it is buggy, scaley, leaf curl, it has it all. Nothing I have done seems to help it. It is a waste of space and water. The thing is the root system is huge, (probably due to the fact of not being watered for so many years.) It sends up shoots as far as 20 ft. away..
I have cleared the flower bed around it, to start cutting it out.
Then with a sad heart, I took out 6 more Roses the gophers ate the roots off of.. The one was'American pillar' it was trained to a huge iron heart that Mickey had given me. That was a sad one to cut off.. I think I was able to save the White Clematis that was planted next to it. I Hope!!!!!
The roses that were lost
American Pillar

Medallion (1 of 6)

White Lightning

Lemon delight
Giving a dinner Party this evening.
The garden looks good, so all can cut some flowers for them selves......:)

Oh boy I have aches and pains this morning.
Guess that's what I get for getting up on the patio roof too cut back and thin out 'Sally':)
I took her back to 4 canes, she was getting so out of hand.
Also cut & pulled out the Moon flower vines in Connie' garden. They were huge. I had to cut & pull them out as they had over grown the ladder that I needed to get up on the roof.
Gee gardening is fun...lol
I hobbled around the garden this morning early, to check it all out. I didn't find any more damage from the gophers. Hope it stays that way.
What was so sweet to see, was a flock of Doves feeding in the garden...Made me smile as I sat and watched them for awhile. As I came down to get the camera, they few away. Wish I hadn't disturbed them, as I love them in the garden....

10-3-3 AM
More bulbs planted yesterday, Planted 6 called 'Amacrinum' Looks like 'Naked Lady' to me.But I like the pink color. More Daffs in, along with more Muscari...Then my favorite, many many more Lilies..All over the gardens....
Jay got the vacuum move from under the house to the garage. The trellis he built to hide the pipe looks rather nice, once the jasmine is woven through it it well look very nice.As I was afraid all the impatiens in the area got trampled..I will replace them later on.
Now he will build the trellis for over the sliding glass door to my bathroom. I have a 'Silver lace vine' in a huge pot to grow on it..
This morning is cloudy with a bit of a chill in the air, News said it may drizzle..I wish it would just rain..We more than need it.
More weeding to be done. Never ending...:)

10-4-03 AM
What a yucky day yesterday in the garden.
Spent the whole day cutting stuff back..
Every Lantana was full of mealybugs..
A total mess. Today I will finish cutting them all out and get rid of them. I have sprayed them to at least get rid of some of the MB's It is quite the infestation of them, so between the Mealybugs and White fly, its going to take some heavy potions to get rid of them..If they can, be rid of....I am spraying Ultra Fine.
The Canna's all have White fly..More spraying.
But the Gerber's are beautiful this time of year. So cheery in the beds.
Some roses are waning off of the bloom. Some are going full out.
Also, getting some mulch put down, I'm a little slow doing that..
The gopher hasn't been digging, I hope he is gone....
Yet this garden is where I want to be...
It isn't fancy. Not at all
It isn't neat and tidy. Not at all
It wasn't and isn't well planed..Not my way
There is no color scheme. I plant what I like
It will never win any awards. It is not meant for that
It is my haven, Welcome to my garden

Mother Nature is not paying much attention here in Southern California. All the Muscari bulbs I planted what, 3 weeks ago if that...Are all coming up...Drats!
Today I hand watered most of the garden, I think better in the garden when I am watering..
Tagged a few more roses to let go.
Have two huge clumps of Yarrow that must be moved. I had cut them back, they have new growth already in 15 days.
All the plants I cut back so I could move them when it got cooler, have regrown and are to big again. Will wait awhile before cutting them back again, then move them.
Yep; this is So. Cal. where Mother Nature does her own thing...:)

Overcast and cool, No rain.
Finishing up planting the Mum's..Decorating the door's for Autumn. Looks festive.
Deadheading roses today....Most are giving a great Fall bloom. As are the Gerbers.

The trellis should be up and finished today.
Then will need to weave the vines back up to them.
I have my fingers crossed that gopher problem is solved for the time being.
It is time to throw Sluggo again for the snails.

I am grumbling to my self this morning, about how much my water bill is, as I have water going in the garden...It does cost a bunch to live and garden in *Gardening Paradise* :)
Did more deadheading this AM early.. Planted some bulbs that a friend dropped off for me.Not sure just what colors or type they are, so planted them in a little nook were it won't matter..
Now I need to go unload the truck, I bought steer manure & potting soil last evening...And maybe.......a few more plants...:)Still to warm to put in Pansies, but I did get some stock & Snaps.....Maybe a few more Mum's.......

10-13-03 PM

Crows, crows, crows, and more crows.
It feels like the movie 'The Birds' here on our lane. The noise is unbelievable. The racket they can make is deafning..I don't remember this many of them in the past years that I have been here. Must be they are having a Conclave...I do hope the move on soon.
Warm today, yet a Fall feel to the air.
Lot of weeding today.
Some planting.
Every thing is so dry I have to be careful not to forget new things I put in.
The butter beans I planted awhile back are doing well.....Well the ones the snails didn't get are doing well...:)
Yesterday I found one tiny little apple on the new apple tree. It was so cute, I went to the fruit stand down the road , bought apples and made applesause for Xmas...I hadn't canned in a long time, it felt good....:)
