Midge Mandella just called me to let me know Bernie died this morning. She wanted me to tell his friends on the internet as she doesn't use it much. He was at home.
I don't know if this is the proper forum to announce this sad news, but it was Bernie's love, dahlias.

I am very saddened to hear this. Bernie has been a Gardenbuddy since the first day. His knowledge and devotion to Dahlias and his eagerness to share with us his passion will never be forgotten.

My condolences to his family. Rest in peace Bernie.

Oh, that's sad! I can picture vividly his beautiful yards and huge dahlia beds!
He also made beautiful wooden lamps, didn't he?
And he referred to his wife, "Lady something"?

This is the saddest news. Bernie was so helpful and a wonderful contributor to the dahlia world. I wish his family and friends comfort in their grief and that the treasure of fond memories eases their loss.

How nice of you to do that EJ. I think of Bernie very often as I'm working in the dahlias. I have some dahlias that he thought were special and I can't help but think of him when I'm working around them. He is very missed.

I have never really been into Dahlias but I've been reading the posts and I recognise a man who is passionate about plants when I see one. This is a nice tribute EJ,and Bernie, may you be surrounded by your favourite flowers.
