There is a house in our neighbourhood that has large yellow AA dahlias in the front. They have huge yellow flowers and don't appear to be staked as they are only about two feet tall and very bushy. They look like Kevin Floodlight. Is it possible. I have never seen the huge dahlias on such short plants. I would love this variety in pots. Any ideas what it might be or names of other short varieties that would be as big and showy?

Most likely. My Kelvin is only 2' tall right now, but I do have it tied up to keep it off the ground.

I took a picture of my Kelvin Floodlight to compare to.
Dauntless and Sir Alf Ramsey in back of it.

Your dahlias are standing proud!. Even if Floodlight is a bit small in stature, chuckle.
Is it usually that height?

Beautiful flowers! Oh oh, if you lavender flowers next to Dauntless are Sir Alf Ramsey, I am in big trouble - this is what my SAR looks like:

Now looking at mine, it really looks like a FD rather than the ID that SFA is - so now, what do you think mine is??

My dahlias are better this year than last year - I am sooo pleased!

Looks great to me Wblevin. No that's not Sir Alf, I've seen other people with that one wrong - I got mine from Corralitos. It really opens up with a cool whiter center cone that turns pink later. Sorry I can't help you with your big pink ID, I've had many noids like that myself.

Lilybeetle- is the yellow a really bright or a light mellow yellow. If it's really bright & a FD it might be Wyn's Highlighter or Laredo. If it's pale yellow ID it might be Wanda's Moonlight or Inca Trident or Wyn's Conquistador. A lot of dahlias started blooming shorter this year for some unknown reason but they're starting to stretch out now.
