Here's some of our seedling babies that are out in the Big Garden. They're only numbers now since they haven't been introduced yet- a couple will be introduced next year. The first 2 numbers indicate what year seedling they are- 02 40 B SC PK
03 146 AA SC O I really like the dark stems- look good with the dark orange color
05 72 B ID W- this is my favorite- today!
05 68 A ID Y
05 58 A FD W

Wonderful blooms! You guys sure are busy pollinators. And such results! Cory, how would describe (in dahlia petal formation terms) the sort of 'folding up' in the middle of the yellow petals. Pretty much smack dab in the center of the photo/flower for reference. Whatever it is, I like it.

Pooch- That's called revolute & how much there is determines if the dahlia is going to be a cactus, semi-cactus or an informal decorative. If it's at the tip of the ray floret it's an ID. (ID's can also recurve like the white one) On a SC the ray florets are revolute for aprox. 1/2 their length & fully revolute (touching) for at least 1/4 of the length. If they're revolute for a majority of their length it's a cactus. I spent about 2 hours yesterday out there pretending I was a bird or a bee & did some new crosses that I haven't tried before between some good FD's & ID's hoping to get more FD's. Also did some tried & true ones just to hedge my bets. Then it rained buckets in about 15 minutes & I'll probably have to go & do it all over again- what are the odds that it washed the pollen IN instead of OFF??! Dahliaboy- the white one is an '05 seedling so it's got a couple of years to go before it goes anywhere but to the trial gardens. Probably go to trials in '08 or '09 & introduce in '09 or '10. If it grows anywhere near as good as Wyn's Conquistador did in your garden it'll be VERY good!!

Thanks for the wonderful explanation. The revolute terms always boggled my mind (and probably still will, but that is a good start for me to easily understand.) I'd like to put in a request for a revolute one just like the yellow, but in a nice rich dark orange- ID, I guess it would be. Is that asking too much? LOL! Is there such a creature in existence already? I like the white B ID W one too, looks like a great 'hairstyle' for a dahlia.

Poochella- I can't think of any really dark orange ID's with the Edna C hairdo but I just tagged this peach one- it's an A sized 2007 seedling. I'll put up signs for the bees-- if I don't do the right crosses for your dark orange maybe they will >:)
And then there's a lavender & white one it's B sized
...and a B sized yellow one. Can you tell this is my favorite form & I try to get as many crosses to give us this form as I can?!
We also have a few more in that style in the seedling gardens- I'll try for more pictures tomorrow.

The peach one would probably do just fine! or lavender, or yellow LOL. Wyn's Garden Glow is opening. Yummy! The first bloom got taken down/bent over by our recent pelting rain, but I am enjoying it even so.

Of all the white dahlias I've ever seen in my entire life, this one just takes my breath away. Will you be offering it for sale?

Lovinlife- it's an 05 seedling so has a year or so more to go. We'll probably send it to the trials next year & introduce it the year after.
