Chrysanthemum Society of New Jersey put on a little mum show at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum last week. I tore through here, taking pictures. They were literally starting to pack up by the time I made it. As it was the end of the second day, I missed many of the smaller flowers in their prime so they were no longer picture worthy. Even some of these pictures show flowers starting to wilt, sorry about that but it was as soon as I could make it. Also, I was playing around with the settings on the camera so the pics aren’t the best. Finally, I am just too short to capture some of them. Couldn’t help but think of some of you dahlia people while looking at these. Seems if you like dahlias, you would at least find mums interesting. OK enough rambling, on with the show... Shall we skip the fall sale types...
And the bonsai shots didn’t come out well...
Like Dahlias, Chrysanthemum come in many shapes and sizes...
I probably like anemones on any flower type...
Some crazy daisies – my term, not theirs...
Some spiders...
Oooo! Kyoto!
Ahhh! Senkyo Kenshin!
Most with thin petals were starting to brown such as spiders like these...
And brush and tassel types like these... Cisco
Saga Nishiki
More Daisies... Artistic Pink
Sheer Pink
A pom pom...
Some incurves...
Some reflex...
And other...
For an encore, there are some hardy mums planted in the gardens - actually my favorites
And that's all folks!

Beautiful photos! I love the variety, but especially the tiny petalled spiders and the thicker petals of the incurves. Splendid! I met a lady who was involved in a combination Dahlia/Chrysanthemum society and seeing those photos I can understand the love of both. Thanks for posting.

This is the second time I saw their show. The first time was a couple years back and I think there was more then. I can't remember exactly how things were explained to me but once they got into the routine of bringing the pots in and out of the sun and whatever else they did, I decided they were too much work. But some are so beautiful. I wonder how they would do if I just let them do their thing?

Oh my! What a variety! Japanese love those. They are very easy to grow as a garden plant but for those that show their babies at exhibitions there seem to be a very strict calendar routine. For example all cuttings are taken on May 5th in my area ( a secret one of the growers shared with me). Loretta, thanks for very interesting pictures!

See? Already that is too much pressure on me. I'm not good with schedules and I have too many other plants to baby one like that. I will have to be satisfied with their shows. There is a big one in NY now but the leaves are falling and work calls.

Well, that would just be one more forum to check and I'm not sure if many people here grow mums. Probably it's a florist specialty??? I choose here because I felt there were similarities to dahlias as far as structure, scale and substance is concerned. I really went for the spider and incurve types too but the more I look at it, the more those pinkish white irregular types near the end of the list grow on me, not unlike your profile pic, Cory.
