Christmas is just a few days away and I now have both Cookbooks finished.I am so anxious to give them to the girls on Christmas Morning.Throughout the year.. when I made something they liked.. or when they called and asked for a recipe.. and all their growing up favs.. I typed them up and printed them.. I added this front cover with Glossy photo paper and an inside photo paper page with different photos of them and an inscription..My friend Nick added the glossy shield see through page and back cover ..then he spiraled them for me. My only regret is not having saved what I typed to a disk..These are my only copies..the hard copies. It is quite thick and I hope in just a wee bit of time.. chili and cake and spagetti splatters will adorn the pages too..

Perfect gifts Monique. I did that for easter two years ago. They are well used books and covered with spatters from lots of stuff. I have a program for recipes that even lists the fat, calories, etc. I know your girls are going to love this gift of love from MOM and DAD.

I too did this for my son and daughter. Unfortunately, DS's girlfriend is now an ex-girlfriend, and she took the recipe book! So soon I will have to make him a new one. Also, DD's BF is vegetarian, so the recipes need adjusting. Not only that, but she has developed an onion/garlic allergy since then too. I can see what their gifts will be next year. I needed your gentle nudge Monique! By the way, my binders were the regular 3 ring type, but I bought plastic sleeves for each page, so they could wipe the splatters away. Also gave them extra pages for future delights of their own.

I had a quick peek at the photo of your cookbook this morning, Monique, and then rushed off down Island. Well done!! I love the idea of gathering recipes and putting cookbooks together. I did one for my three grown children, one for me, for Bonitoad and older sister, Mom, best friends, cousins, aunts....it just grew! I added photos of family members and friends along with their favorite recipes. It was great fun! Here's an example of what I did.. front cover..
a favorite photo..circa 1964, Pacific Rim
dedicated to my Dad (in his work clothes..another favorite photo...he died in 1978)
and...the back cover of my family cookbook!

Your dad looks very handsome in his work attire.Bet he could do a lot.. I never thought of a catchy back page.Wish I had seen yours. The front photo is that of you? Very fitting and so romantic looking. Thanks again.

Well done! I did that for the kids when they were married, they love that book with all the old family recipes in it. It's a fun project to work on, isn't it.

Monique, the black and white photo at Pacific Rim is me, and I think it's actually 1965 (I love the water). Your recipe book spells love. It is so easy to see. And we are not alone in the idea of putting together these special memories of good food and good times.I wish we could see photos of Jodi, Marie and Rosemary's books. I love cookbooks at the best of times, but these, made by mom's, are simply the best!

Well I love the blk and white of you..I wish we could see the others also..
And I wish I had saved the recipes to a disk or a hard drive.. I cannot tell you the difficulties I had as a newlywed trying to learn how to cook.. A great meal in my mind 30yrs ago was Pillsbury Turnovers for dessert and Chinese Chicken Wings with VH sauce:) Did you keep extras of all of yours? I bet the mice are in it:) As Janet so aptly put it..

The mice cookies are a new recipe, but my cookbook does have 'dog turds' in it, an old, old family favorite! Even the grand girls love them, despite their name! I forgot to put a strawberry shortcake recipe in the book and heard from everyone that it was missing! When I was first married I bought a small Pillsbury Bake-Off recipe book, and every recipe has been tried on my family and every one was a hit. It's still holds the position of honor on the bookshelf. And some of those recipes are in my collection of family recipes cookbook. I know how much time it takes to put these books together, but what happiness it brings to everyone. I put two little stories in the back of my book because I found them so much fun. I'll print one of them out later and see if there are others with my sense of humor!

Your daughters will treasure those books, Monique, because they are filled with love. I can see your Pillsbury Bake-Off book has been used a few times. Mine was bought in 1965, the year I was married. I paid a whole 50 cents for it! The spine of the book has been taped a few times, but it is my very favorite book.
And these are two of my favorite recipes...one is called Mystery Pecan Pie (has a million calories!)
And this is a page in my own cookbook. When I was maybe four years old my mom had our Aunt Ikie look after my older sister and myself. I think Boni was a baby. Anyway, in the morning she came outside her little house with a bucket and a shovel and dug up some worms. I asked her what she was doing and she replied, "Fetching lunch." When we were called in to eat we had spaghetti on our plates. Monique, I had never had spaghetti before, and I really believed I was eating worms in tomato sauce. Notice how obedient we were. We ate up. So when I put my aunt's baking powder biscuit recipe in the book, I added the photo of her with Uncle George, and the spaghetti. She had a good laugh.

Too funny Diane! And your bakeoff book looks so loved! When I was growing up in the first few grades we walked to school..and a friend I had.. invited me to lunch..I had never had spagetti in a can..and that is what we ate..To me ..that is exactly what I thought we were having..Worms. I was obedient too.I actually ate it but stayed away from eating there ever again. You put a lot of thought into that book .. I can see all the pages in my mind:) You know somewhere in my 30 yrs of married life I think I made that cake on the cover.

It's called 'Fudge Ribbon Cake' and turned out to be a favorite of my neighbour's, Judy. So easy to make. Almond Filled Cookie Cake sounds wonderful too. A friend of my family's makes a wonderful Buttercream Cake, but never shares her recipes. Maybe that's a good thing, as it is delicious. She also makes a cookie cake, where she uses some of the buttercream. I've tried to replicate it several times but never get it quite right. Years ago Boni's husband asked me to make the Strawberry Pie I had made the year before. I couldn't remember which one I did, so I made my favorite and sent it over. No, that was good but not the right one. I made another, sent it over. Same thing, delicious but not the right pie. I don't know how many Strawberry Pies I made and sent over before I (silly me!) finally got it!!! He GOT me and in the meanwhile managed to get several very good pies. The only justice after all this is that I've caught him lying about his age a few times! (And I'm much wiser.)
