Your photo is tantalizing, so I went to Toomey's book and this clematis is from 1845, found in Western and Northern Iran and Turkmenistan. And thanks to Spider, here is info from CotW http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=234 I can't imagine something this lovely as a natural plant in what I'd thought was desert and barren land. I would really love some seeds.
