I posted these on the Garden Gallery as well but this is where they belong. As this is close to my home I go there several times a season and seldom do I come away without having place "another" order. Gratrix Lily Farm Taken in July

I can see how you could not come away empty handed. I am a daylily addict.

Jodi, are they all growing in the ground. So what happens when you wish to buy one?

Isn't it fun to see so many lilies at once and to try and pick out a couple?I could spend a whole day there and still not be able to make up my mind. I must have 500 or so,have lost count and don't know how I got so many.Last year got seedlings and plants and planted about 200 seeds. Keets must have planted 1000 seeds and Jeannie planted a lot too.Jodi you can buy the seeds of the more expensive lilies and they are very easy to grow.Am going to have to do some selective weeding this year.

Carolyn - when you arrive at the lily farm you are given a clip board with order form. You make your selections and hand it in when you leave. Then in October you go and pick up your selections - packaged and ready for you. You can opt to have them mailed as well. Likewise for the spring selections - you can either pick them up or they are mailed. That is why I make so many trips there in the season - to see how the plants are doing, what is blooming when, etc. It sure is nicer than going to a nursery and buying a "root".

Janet I don't have nearly that many - maybe 20 or so but my collection is growing. I am nurturing some seedlings too - and I didn't even plant these.

Carolyn, around our area (2/3 hours drive) is Ohio's Mecca. We have quite a few daylilies places that we can make a nice day trip and still see a couple of places. We have a place in Chester, West Virginia that we go to every year. It is small but has some lovely daylilies and we always come home with some. He keeps some in pots and the rest are planted. He just digs up some of what you want and when you can force yourself to leave you can run home and plant it. I have a real big surprise for him this year. I had ordered a daylily from a hybridizer and he sent me enough to share with my sister and I potted a fan for him. It is Palace Garden Beauty and very expensive, but I got a deal on it and just can't wait until it blooms. Most of his daylilies are from older ones from the eighties and nineties. He does hybridize his own plants and has some beautiful ones that I just love. I have one he gave me (he was going to throw it away) and it is one of my favorite lilies. Their plants are healthy and large and he gives you a nice bunch. Here is one I got from him last year blooming in the pot. This is Big Snow Bird and is still in the pot, it has three blooms on it, the one is hard to see.

Janet, what is the name of that glorious lily in your post? It's just breathtaking!!! I have only 6-8 varieties, but at last have the motivation to really do something about DLs. The old mulberry in the back yard was cut down in the late summer, so I know have lots more sun!! My two favorites thus far are Irish Eyes and a gorgeous beauty called Cherry Cheeks. I would really like to find a Bertie Ferris and a Tuscawilla Tigress.
