I'm almost ready to start adding the pile of compost to my beds that I have been working on all summer. I have two more piles that are almost done and i'll be ready. How thick do you guys add the compost to your beds?

My method is adding a few shovels full around the base of shrubs, telling them each this is their "winter blankie'........LOL. Seriously, they have all responded with healthy new growth in the spring. Having mostly azaleas and camellias I did not dig it in since they are shallow rooted and don't want to be disturbed. For flower beds I just used the spade to dig it in.
