Tomas, my goodness it's so cold there already. Is this normal? The cyclamen look charming. I tried them last year from bulbs but they did not come up at all.

Those cyclamen are just wonderful. I like the foliage as much as I like the flowers. Mary

Tomas..have you had a bad summer garden wise? I have missed your posts so much and this reminds me why. The light ..the mist ..the colors..What is that friend to Cyclamen? A match made in heaven.

Nice to see you posting, lovely plants and combination. I love cyclamen in the garden. Arlene don't give up they sometimes don't come up the first year after they are planted.

LOL...Tomas have you tried the deep red ones? They will warm your garden right up.

Tomas is back! Nice to see your cyclamen! Is it OK to plant them at this time? I have grown a bunch from seed and they are so small. Perhaps 1 inch tall with several leaves each. I am wondering if I should leave them in the house over winter or try planting them outside. It has been a fairly warm week here...above 20F...but I know what is coming soon... :-( DH has started playing hockey already. PS: You seem to have excellent luck with your heathers. Mine have never survived. What kind enjoys your climate?

Beautiful photo, Tomas! I've never tried growing cyclamen. Your zone is similar to mine - any tips?

Yes Arlene this is a normal temp for September. Itīs an annual cyklamen, left over from work. Last fall, EJ, I had red white and pink ones. I also have tried perennial cyklamen, they lasted for two years only. Monique and Marie, the heathers are Calluna Vulgaris, actually our "State Flower". Yes Monique, Iīve had a lousy gardening summer, all my inspiration was gone and itīs so easy to blame the bad weather though I know Iīm the only one to blame. Thank you all for the nice "Welcome back" I think I needed that

Love the cyclamens Tomas. I had the perennial ones in my previous garden and it was always a delight to see them come up each year.

They are very lovely. It will be a pity when they are killed off by frost. Can you take them inside? Have you really tried Cyclamen hederifolium? I think it is very hardy - maybe needs a little mulching in the winter in your zone.

Marie, I am growing cyclamen from seed also. I just got mine started, so they have not germinated yet. I believe Horticulture Magazine just did an article on growing from seed. Also, Tim from the hellebore forum grows them and has given me some great advice. If you want, e-mail me and I can forward some of his e-mails which give help. You can also try http://www.cyclamen.org I found some of the instructions a bit intimidating, but Tim's e-mails helped ease the anxiety.

Beautiful play of light through fine flowers. Iīve also tried perennial Cyklamens (hederifolium). They came back last fall and the year before. But no sign of life yet this year. Wonder if this very wet summer drowned them?

Yes Mara, I have grown C.hederifolium, given them protection during winter. Iīm with Christian, I think we have too much rain. The only wild hederifoliums I ever seen was in Greece, growing in a very dry slope. Susan, the only tip I can give you is when I planted my heathers I of course took them out of their pots held the plant upside down and with a knife I cut a one inch deep X at the bottom of the plant. Then I turned the 4 piece bottom out like 4 feet and filled the planting hole with very muddy soil. The problem with getting heathers rooted is the fabric like root clump.

Tomas, it's usually recommended that cyclamen be planted under bushes or amongst tree roots - in other words plants that will steal all the moisture from the soil. I've had C. hederifolium growing for years near a birch tree. No matter how much I water, or how much it rains, the soil never stays wet.
