As this season begins winding down for me here in Chicago, I've been treated to quite a number of second and third waves of blossoms, probably due to our incredibly summer-like September weather.

The pink is Asao, which in its first year has produced probably 8-10 perfectly luscious blooms. It now rivals Hagley Hybrid and C. de Bouchard as my favorite pink. The dark purple is Serenta, which has only been in the ground 4 weeks but has produce 20 flowers. The striped is Mrs. N. Thompson, giving me a third flush of 10-15 blooms while still only 3' tall. This seems to be a real winner.

The pink below is Asao again, the light blue a bleached out Ramona in third flush (the first blooms are a darker shade, as you know, but successive flushes for me have been lighter as the season progresses). The dark purple is Kacper, providing a third flush of 8 giant velvet-purple blooms. This is only 2 seasons old, and has been an impressive rebloomer in this 2nd year for me.

Lovely Mike, just lovely. I bought Asao this Spring but have had only one flush (double flowers). You must have much better climate in Chicago than we have here in Sweden, sometimes we have two flushes of flowers in a season. Marvelous. Serenata is a "Swedish" clematis, raised by Tage Lundell, but I have never seen it for sale here in Sweden.

A friend of mine grows Asao but found it hard getting it started in our cold climate. It took several years, but now is a delight.

My Asao is blooming well now also. I have it planted with John Paul II and it is also blooming. It is a real treat to have fresh looking blooms this time of year. My SAC is in full bloom and covered with thousands of fragrant flowers. It is beautiful!

Oops, my mistake. The one purple is near Serenata, but is actually Warsaw Nike. Serenata has different sepals. The problem with having them so close together!

Your report on rebloom is very interesting, Mike. I did some trimming at the end of July and now have beautiful rebloom on Comtesse de Bouchaud. I have had a terrible time getting Asao established. Right now it has no leaves at all and may have died.
