Doses anyone know if they have decided to ship in fall again. I thought they were not going to do it, but they do not say anything on the redesigned website. Also, is it too late for zone 6 to plant them?

It isn't too late for zone 6 rose planting - it is too early. At least if they are bare-root. They aren't normally shipped before the end of October at the earliest. Bare-root roses can be planted any time during their dormant season - as long as the soil isn't actually frozen.

Thanks Monique and Mara. Monique, I am looking for a white one to add. Last spring I ordered Mme Alfred Carriere. One made it but the other didn't (they did refund my money). Can you recommend a white one for my split rail fence that is pretty hardy, tolerates some shade and has some fragrance?

Henry Hudson and BDd C are very similar in growth and bloom patterns..Both look neglected if you do not deadhead the spent blooms.. Both do better in full sun..however I would have to say that perhaps Henry is more tolerant. I also have Morden Snowbeauty and though I appreciate it's less fanciful blooms ..they don't last as long .They don't need deadheading to get rid of the not so pretties through.

If it doesn't have to repeat bloom, Alba roses are all fairly shade tolerant and very hardy. Also very fragrant. Of the ones that rebloom, the hybrid musks will tolerate a fair amount of shade and still flower very profusely. There's a white climber called 'Moonlight' that is very pretty. Hybrid Musks aren't the most hardy, but should be fine in zone 6.

Thanks everyone. I just looked up the varieties you suggested, the only one not listed on Pickering is Morden Snowbeauty. love all the ones you suggested. I also was thinking of these because they are climbers: Seagull, White Dawn, Alba Maxima, R. duponti, R. Filipes. Has anyone grown these with good results?

New Dawn is not cane hardy for me..Have to start over every year..You are in a warmer climate..I think white dawn is similar.. Good luck! I love Polestar..Grew 10 ft plus in one season..but blooms for ap 3 weeks that's all.Small roses.Adorable.Very vigorous..Covered in blooms!

Blanc Double is VERY cane hardy. It gets no protection at all from me and has been around for years.

Terry, With the exception of 'White Dawn', all those you mention are once-blooming. And Filipes 'Kifgate' and 'Seagull' all grow huge! I think they could be too big for a fence. 'White Dawn' would be a good choice for a large repeat-flowering climber. 'Moonlight' if you want something smaller.

Once again thanks for your help. I'll print this out so I can remember your suggestions come spring. Monique, I read the home page again on Pickering's website and saw where they say only ship in spring. I guess it threw me because before when you did a search it gave a notice that they were not shipping.
