The different cirrhosas start with flowering. They are (almost)hardy in Holland. At a dry and sheltered place in Winter they will survive. balearica

Do you have it in the garden or in a container. You can see the difference between east and south in temperature I have only buds. They are in a container.

Lovely flowers Ton. I like them all. I have a couple of questions about the cirrhosas. I have Freckles which I purchased this spring. I potted it up in a big pot on a wall with southern exposure. It had blooms on it when it arrived from Brushwood this spring and put out some growth. I even got a few flowers on it this summer and earlier in the fall and it is blooming now and has been for a few weeks for me. Unfortunately, it hasn't grown that much in height at all since I got it. I thought that I remembered reading somewhere that the cirrhosas sort of go dormant when the weather is hot. Is that correct and can you share your cultural experience about them especially if they grow little the first couple of years in the ground and then take off? Thanks for any comments.

They go summer/autumn dormant here in the UK. Growth for the first 2 years is quite slow but then they take off and on a South facing wall here I have seen balearica over 4m tall and spreading across a roof to a width of 5m. My own largest was on a lattice trellis and reached 3m by 5m. So far hardy in UK to -10 for 2 nights in a large pot facing South West and sheltered from the East winds. Mine are all in bud but not yet open - must be a little less sunny here than Holland lately!

My Wisley Cream started blooming about 3 weeks ago. I have it against the house on the south side. Unfortunately I had to cut back my 2 year old Cirrhosa balearica this year because I needed to train it to a new trellis. It is on the southwest corner of the house. Both of those are in the ground. They are experimental, I am not sure if they will survive my winters. My Freckles is very young, I do not expect any bloom this year. I hope my Freckles will be as pretty as yours. Thank you for the pictures.

Thanks for the info Mike. Katie, my Freckles is also experimental and I don't know if it will survive my winters or not. Worth a shot though for such beautiful blooms!
