I am addicted to growing these lovely bulbs! There isn't a bad one in the lot and no weedy ones, either. The flowers are just a bonus. About 1996 I received my first seed trade which included lots of species. From experience I learned not to leave pots in the garage where mice raided the seeds!
the long, narrow silver one I call " stretch limo". It appeared in a batch labeled 'Silver Cloud'. I enjoy just looking at the foliage patterns and the leaf shapes. Most of the pots are overcrowded but seem to do well in spite of this.

Thanks for sharing your pictures Carol. I agree on two points they are addictive and also wonderful just for the foliage. Tim has been telling me that the best is yet to come as far as leaf variation. Your pictures prove this point. I have some seedlings that have the elongated leaves but at this point they have a solid green leaf. How old are the plants in your pictures? I have cats who stroll around my basement so I am hoping they do their job and my plants don't get ravaged by mice. I also have to keep an eye out on the cats, they like to nibble also! I have had my hellebores down there last year with no problem so I will keep my fingers crossed.

Terry, I have pet parrots who share a stand on the porch near the plants! One large coum tuber was scalloped along the top by my Meyers parrot. I wasn't pleased about it! I'd say most of the plants in the photos are a couple of years old. The large coum plants are older and have their own clay pots and are hopeful for flower shows. There are new batches of seedlings coming along and there are always surprises. That's what I love about these plants. I hope to plant more out in the garden next year. Chipmunks planted some from a pot left out beneath the Japanese maple. All survived and grew well.

Guilty! Mine are under lights in the laundry room. I look at them far more than the piles of dirty clothes! In fact, I study the foliage several times a day, not counting the times when I turn the lights on and off. Yours are wonderful to gaze at Carol!

Your stretch limos look more like epimedium leaves than cyclamen! What an interesting variety. Do you know the parentage?

What a fantastic sight! I can understand how quickly they could become addictive. Which is why I still Just Say No.

Oh Mara why not take the plunge? Think of how much fun you could have leaf peeping in the winter instead of taking care of dirty laundry!

I too am addicted to cyclamen, having caught the bug from Tim, Carol and a mutual friend, and trips to England at cyclamen time. And this year I finally have abundant seedlings of my own! I don't have any pictures of plants from my own collection, but maybe people would enjoy these: Leaf patterns, Tilebarn Nursery
C. hederifolium on a slope, Blackthorn Nursery, Feb
Coum and hederifolium, Blackthorn
Forms of hederifolium from the nursery of a famous Gardenbuddy (I DO hope this person will not mind me posting this picture, showing a fabulous array of hederifolium leaf forms)
And I dare not show the British hellebores one can see in February at this time, all GBs will be heading over there..... Maybe over Thanksgiving I can finally be home in the light to take some pictures of my own plants.

What a treat David, thank you. Please treat us to your own cyclamen pictures and hellebore pictures also, it would be wonderful. Who will step up and let us know who is the owner of those wonderful hederifolium? Hope everyone celebrating has a great Thanksgiving.

Erm, just twigged who owns the hederifolium in the last photo - guilty as charged - they belong to me. No David, I don't mind you posting that photo at all; very pleased that you did!. The glasshouses are looking pretty good at the moment - I will have to get out there at the weekend and take some photos.

Somehow Tim I thought you would be the owner of these gorgeous plants. If you get a minute can you take a look at my other post about leaf color on coum. Maybe you can shed light on this issue.

Well Tim I was a bit nervous that I should not post a picture of your plants without asking, but I was pretty confident that you wouldn't mind. And I remember being amazed at the variations of leaf forms, especially among the hederifoliums, though of course there are many other cyclamen that have beautiful leaves. This is a closer up of two forms that I really enjoyed from Tim's collection, quite unlike any other hederifoliums I have seen
Tim do you recall the seed source for these two with the broad angular leaves with the distinctive central silver blotch?

Hi David, Yeah, I can tell you exactly where I got the seed from. I collected it myself from a colony of hederifolium growing near a place called Paleokestritsa, which is on the northwest corner of the Greek island of Corfu, back in May 2001. Flowers on these plants are scented too.
