The first photo is of C. colchicum. Likes the same cultivation routine as one of my favourites, C. purpurascens.
It won't be long now before the coum start to flower. The leaves will do for now...
This is a silver leaf form of C. elegans. Used to be called C. coum subsp. elegans but is now regarded as a species in its own right.
This plant took a couple of years to show its potential. It is reluctant to set much seed and just to add insult to injury, very few seedlings look like the parent.
Finally, C. graecum grown from seed which was taken from a plant grown from seed (Phew!) collected on the Greek island of Crete.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. A real treat to view as our weather is just horrible. It has been poring all morning long. I think we have a break, I may run out to get more soil for my seedlings.

Tim - you have a wonderful array of plants - each one lovelier than the last - very interesting to see the differences.

Incredible. The colchium is so distinctive...I've never seen such serrated edged on a cyclamen leaf before. How I'd love to join one of your seed collecting expeditions! The graecium is fantastic. The second elegans is stunning. I've never seen such variety in one collection.

Hello: I bought my first cyclamen this fall and planted it about 1.5 months ago. It did not bloom. Should it have? It really doesn't/didn't look like it was doing anything at all. I planted it with the tuber a bit above the soil line. The soil was gritty and limey. Would appreciate any insight any of you might have.

I guess the first thing to tell us, if you know, is what species you have. It may be that it will bloom in spring. Is there anyway you can post a picture? If you do not know the species you bought, someone may be able to identify it. Otherwise look on they cyclamen website: http://www.cyclamen.org/spec_frame.htm This may tell you when to expect your bloom.

I can see why they are grown for their leaves as well as for their flowers. What a beautiful variety of foliage!

Thanks Terryk for the response. I believe it is cyclamen hederifolium. I think the tag said it blooms in the late fall. It had just one leaf at the time of planting. I think this is the most hardy variety for my cold zone!!

They're all lovely, Tim. I just bought a 'florist' cyclamen now in stores for the holidays. I 'Googled' for information about it and was sad to learn they are so hard to care for inside. (It has already wilted once.) Oh, well, I'll enjoy it inside while it survives.

Sylvia, if you post a picture it probably can be identified better. Also, maybe the reason you have not had flowers yet is the plant is young. Has your plant increased in size-the amount of leaves on it now? If this is the case it may just be a matter of time before you get flowering. Another factor may be your siting of the plant in the garden. Give us more details and I am sure some help will come your way.

Terryk: I can't post a picture because I have no digital camera. There really wouldn't be anything to see, since it is just a tuber! I have it planted under a small garden ornament and a small shrub which shades it and gives it some dappled sun. The tag says hederifolium syn neapolitanum, sun or part shade, bloom early autumn early winter, 15 cm high and 15 cm wide. That's all I can give you. I bought it in a 5 inch pot to give you a sense of how mature the plant might be.

Thanks for trying Terryk! We'll have to see next year whether it survives the winter. Anyhow, how about my indoor cyclamen? I've had it for three weeks. So far so good but recently it has some yellow leaves. I've watered it from underneath, and never let it dry out completely. Any advice, I know these are difficult plants. Sylvia

Sylvia, I am not the expert but if you read some of the attached information from the cyclamen society web site, it may help you. It sound like you may not be letting the plant dry out enough between watering. here is the link http://www.cyclamen.org/faq_set.html Please if anyone else can give better information, it would be helpful. Even though I got this forum going, I am fairly new to cyclamen. Be patient, because of the holidays, people may not be posting as often.

I was given an indoor cyclamen last Christmas and it just sat there in an unheated room all summer and lots of the leaves died off. A few weeks ago I noticed new leaves and now there are flower buds appearing. Secrets of success? Well very little water during the dormant period increasing as the leaves start to appear. I thought it would be too cold in this room but obviously my plant prefers no artificial heat.
