The male Eiders have now got their breeding plumage back and are making their wonderful display calls. I love the subtle greens on these birds.

Wonderful detail, Annette. I love the blush on the breast.

When I looked at the first picture, I had a swell of nostalgia for the saddle shoes I wore during my pre-teen years. Wrong color and all -- that doesn't quite make sense. They look more like someone wearing spats, really. I wonder if that's where the idea of contrasting (white) spats or gaiters came from.

What wonderful photos! Don't think I've ever seen these color combinations together. You are right the subtle green is gorgeous. Would love to see this species in person!
