cabbage recipe? I have a beautiful head of cabbage that's waiting to be prepared. It can be a side or main dish but don't think I'll do the corned beef 'n cabbage thing this time. TIA.

Cabbage rolls.. Bouilli de légumes.. The latter is simply a stove top simmered stew in a large pot.. you simmer your beef cubes and onions and garlic in a broth you make and enjoy..when it is near tender..you add carrot chunks.. potato chunks.. rutabagas.. and quartered cabbage. Small yellow fresh string beans tied with a string:)...Let simmer till all the veggies are delish.. Or can u make fresh saurkraut..I love that! Cabbage soup.. Minestrone.. Coleslaw... Serve with white distilled vinegar!(To put on the cabbage)

You like stuffed Cabbage? Here is a pretty good and easy recipe. Stuffed Cabbage Leaves: 1 pound lean ground meat 4 T. margarine 3 large onions, chopped 1/3 cup rice 1 T. tomato paste 3 pounds cabbage (large leaves suitable for stuffing) 6 c. water 2 1/2 T. salt black pepper Cut halfway into the cabbage and remove its center. Put 3 cups of water and 2 T. of salt into large pot. Add the cabbage, without its center to the pan, cover and boil over high heat until the leaves are soft. Remove the cabbage and let cool. Remove the hard and veined parts, cut cabbage into or peel the leaves the size of a hand and set aside. Saute' the chopped onions in 2 T. margarine until the color of the onions changes. Add 1 cup water and the washed rice, cover and cook for 10 minutes over moderate heat. Remove from heat, add the ground meat, 1/2 T. of salt and pepper, and mix together for about 10 minutes. Take small amounts of the filling and put it on cooled cabbage leaves. Fold the cabbage from both left and right sides and then roll. Place each rolled cabbage piece into pan; seam side down. Melt 2 T. margarine, add the tomato paste and add to the 2 cups of water. Pour over rolled leaves and cover with a plate. Cover pan and simmer over moderate heat for about 30-40 min. Place on a serving dish and serve. You could also make some cole slaw with your cabbage.

Oh, thanks, both of you...I'll present the ideas to DH and let him choose. I'm leaning toward the stuffed cabbage but then again...cabbage soup sounds mouthwatering. :)

Here is a recipe when I was in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia. I remember one evening sitting by the blue nile falls and preparing this in a dutch oven.
Cabbage Pie recipe Ingredients 10 large cabbage leaves 700 g (1 1/2b) potatoes, cooked and mashed, roots work well 4 oz (100 g) runner beans, sliced 2 leeks, sliced 4 oz (100 g) cabbage, sliced 3 eggs, beaten 300ml (1/2 pint) freshly squeezed goat milk 3 oz (75 g) English Cheddar, grated, try finding this in the jungle freshly ground pepper 2 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped method 1. Remove thick stems from large cabbage leaves. Cook in boiling water until tender. Don't forget to use a dash of chlorine to serialize the water. 2. Butter a 25.5 cm (10 inch) shallow oven proof dish, line with potato then cabbage leaves leaving them hanging over the edge. 3. Cook remaining vegetables in boiling water until just tender. 4. Fill the cabbage lined dish. 5. Mix eggs and milk, add the cheese, pepper and sage. Pour over vegetables. 6. Fold cabbage leaves over the top. 7. Bake at 190°C(375"F) Mark 5 for 30 minutes Serve hot. serving amount 4 Monkeys or 3 Humans

I saw someone yesterday who was, "going out to look at some goats." She doesn't know what she's getting into.
