Hello, I'm in zone 6a and am looking for some advice on early spring planting.....I'm wondering if it's time to get the peas/beets and onions into the ground? My gardening thumb is getting itchy! Thanks....}

Probably could in your area. Here the ground is still frozen hard.

Hi Slykat!
I'm on Vancouver Island, so our zone is a little higher than yours and we certainly can plant all of those now. Our neighbour has his potatoes all planted, but I usually wait for it to warm up just a bit more before putting peas, onions or potatoes in. I'm not sure there's a great advantage to getting them in the ground this early. (I still haven't put my sweet peas in, although my sister has planted hers. And I wouldn't be surprised if our flowers still bloom at the same time again this year.)
Welcome to Gardenbuddies!!

Welcome to gardenbuddies! It has been a while since I planted a vegetable garden, but I think you want to make sure the soil has dried out a bit before planting or your seed will sit and rot.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and the advice, it is greatly appreciated. I got the onions in the ground yesterday but decided to wait on the peas for a couple of weeks. Now, does anyone know about Martha Washington asparagus!! (I really am a green horn..) The box I bought today has 10 plants in it and I do know from reading it can take approx 2 years to yield a harvest but anyone have any other tips?
