I am quite smitten with the plants from the Canary Islands, and this one is definitely one of the nicest. It's been blooming for 2 months now, and there's more to come. The orange flowers and the dark foliage really stand out against the Euphorbia mellifera (left) and Euphorbia lambii (right), both of which are also Canary Island natives.

How big is your Euphorbia mellifera? It will get HUGE!

I have a friend who is obsessed with Isoplexis. Apparently there is a lot of confusion on which species is which in the trade. We have massive ones blooming in the old propagation range at NYBG. I am not sure if they are going to bother to move them.

Wow, what an impressive plant. Not hardy in my zone, I suppose.

That's really pretty David. I love the dark foliage and the shape (and color) of the flowers.

Very pretty, David. It almost looks like a salvia.

Kaveh, the Euphorbia mellifera is about 8 ft tall. In my climate it grows more shrub-like than the tree form it attains in habitat. I also have a Euphorbia stygiana from the Canaries that is even taller. There's only 4 species of Isoplexis identified--I have also the Isoplexis isabelliana, but it is not in bloom yet. The flowers are redder than the canariensis. Isoplexis sceptrum has paler green leaves and a noticable white stripe on the petiole.

Mike, it's hardy to about 28F, but probably makes a good container plant!

Susan, this is a close relative of the Digitalis/foxglove, both in Scrophulariaceae.
