This is Heterocentron elegans, from Central America. Though it can take sun, it does very well in light shade, and it puts on an unusually vivid show in summer for a shade area. It grows indefinitely but isn't invasive at all.
This is another little patch I started from the original.

It's absolutely lovely, David !!! Grrrr...Zone 11 -12, it's unfair ! I would have adopted this little jewel with the greatest pleasure !!! Thanks for showing us, anyway, as I had never heard of it !

Zeph, I think that hardiness info is way off. My garden is in a solidly zone 9b area--we got several days down to -3C last winter and these were untouched. With overhead protection from shrubs or trees I bet you could push it a bit more.
