Hi all, I planted some scabiosa this Spring and it has taken wonderfully. Can someone tell me if I am to deadhead the spent flowers, or leave them there for new growth? It's hard to tell by looking at the flower because the flower head doesn't brown up completely like with other flowers. Plus, when I do deadhead, it just leaves a stalk and I don't see new shoots coming up anywhere. UGH, please help!

Margaret welcome to Garden Buddies.

As for the scabiosa cut the spent blooms, stem and flower to the base of the plant. That will promote the formation of new flowers. You can tell when the flower needs to be cut: it starts to whither and eventually it will become brown. Soon enough new flowers will appear.

Hi Margaret. You need to deadhead to keep the flowers coming. If there is only one flower on the stalk, then cut it back as far down as you can. If there are other flowers branching off the stalk, then cut back to just above where they branch.
