I have a large back yard that borders on a horse pasture and part of the yard is covered with Pensacola bahia grass. Big, shoots up seed spike as you walk the mower by and very tough. I don't want to use chemicals to destroy it, don't want to till and just replant all the seeds so I am trying a process called overseed. Mow it to one inch, spread seeds (in my case I am using white Dutch clover seeds, properly innoculated, buffalo grass and wildflower seeds. The Buffalo grass and WDC reach a height of 4" in good growing conditions. I don't have good growing conditions. Sandy hill, full sun to partial shade of bordering trees, over abundance of rain to drought conditions, so I figure it will never get to max height. After the one inch mowing cut and spread the seeds you rake it to give seeds earth contact and water if Mother Nature doesn't until it gets established and mow at 3" to keep the bahia from seeding. I am in Central Florida, on the cusp of Zones 8 & 9 and 5 miles from the coast which gives a nice coastal breeze. The humidity is terrific right now since we have had double the normal rainfall. The seeds haven't arrived yet and it may not stop raining so I can mow my lawn, but other than that if anyone sees a problem, let me know. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks, Helen

I just noticed it has kept me under my old thread, Mother of Thousands, but this is about changing a standard "ug!" lawn into a meadow. Can anyone tell me how to get the posting to do that and then I can copy and post my message where it will make sense. Thanks a bunch for any help, Helen

Welcome to Gardenbuddies, Helen! I am not sure about the title/post problem... But the idea you have for your meadow sounds like a good one. With the tropical storms and the 'H' word season upon us, you should get plenty of rain to get things started. I hope it turns out nicely for you. Carolyn in Charleston
