Thanks Mara. They are all in pots this time. I'll just keep them in the shed covered with blankets or in the garage.

Oh. So with a little protection they are hardy. How long have you had them?

For these this is the first year. In the past I would plant them in the ground and forget about them. If you dig them up they can be used again but I would never get around to it. A friend of mine said she always grows them in pots and then just brings them in so I will try that.

Like your presentation too. I too plant mine in pots and just bring the pot in for the winter and keep them in my coldroom. In Spring, I bring the pot back up and start waterting.

I suppose in a warmer climate and left in the ground they might make babies. In the pots in the garage I have no expectations.

They're gorgeous, Arlene and Joan! I love the shading of the pink and white on their petals. Do they need a lot of sunlight?

Excellent presentation of your Callas in your screen film! You earned an "A" for creativity! Which Callas are you growing? I also grow mine in pots that are brought in during the winter time. One year I grew them in the ground and never got around to digging them up. Lost those Callas! Now, I only grow them in containers.

Shirley I have no idea which ones these are. In the pot the pink ones started out white and the Blush is part of the name. I also could never remember where they were planted so I could dig them up in the fall. That or I was just too busy or the weather was unfavorable. Do you water them over the winter or just leave them be? I plan to leave them alone until around March. I'll try waking them up then unless someone tells me otherwise. And thank you for your "A."

The white becoming pink are called "Crystal Blush". I grow mine in pots and bring them in all winter, no watering until I see the tips poking up through the soil in the pots. And they multiply like crazy in the pots - I planted 6 and in two years I had 20! I also have yellow, Neon (bright pink) and a black one. Will try to find my photos.....

Arlene, I also bring them inside in their containers. I've had Calla Lilies blooming in January! You can either continue to grow them indoors in slightly moistened soil, in bright light by an Eastern window, or take them out of their container and let them rest in a labeled paper bag filled with slightly moistened sphagnum moss. I just leave them in the same pot. When I bring them back outside next Spring, I'll divide them, give them fresh potting soil and fertilizer.

Hi, very nice Arlene! I love callas too and I leave them in the ground and they have lots of babies coming up! I'm in zone 6 too. My first one which have multiplied 100 times, I planted on the eastside of my house, next to the wall of the house, along with my clematis and tulips and daffodils. I kept seeing these little green babies and didn't know what they were, I left them alone and thought that they could be Lily of the Valley, turns out they are my Calla lilies. I planted out the callas from my son's condolence garden basket and all those came back and with a vengence! These Callas are different colors also, one is Blush and another is a more rosey color. Something is working because I planted those in David's memory garden and also with the white calla lilies that seem to be so hardy. Now I have transplanted the first white calla with white spotted leaves at different spots in my yard in part shade and semi protected by fencing or house or near my fish ponds. They are doing great. I have so many babies now that I'm going to experiment more. If anyone wants to have some babies let me know and I'll send some to you!

Gee I don't know how they came back for you unless your ground doesn't freeze as much as mine does. Lucky you.

Maybe it is because we have less moisture and I do try to cover up the plants with leaves etc. But not much. We've been having mild winters. Callas enjoy part shade or shade. At least in this desert city. This was for the Virginia GB.

I am resurrecting an area of the yard now available due to the removal of two trees. I have had cala lillies planted there but they tend to disappear and reappear. You will not question why when I tell you I am overrun with gophers! I was looking deeper for a bulb for a plant that was hearty and flowering just a few weeks ago. About 3" below the soil I found a root/bulb with a few root tendrils--it looks a lot like the ginger you buy in the store. Can I get the lilies to grow from this? Should I plant it back in the ground and water it, or put it in water and let it root out (like an avocado seed)? I'm not a knowledgeable or experienced gardener and want my calas to eventually spread in this part of the yard. Help!
