The biggest single killer of plants generally is owner's kindness! Or to put it another way - plants are all too often over watered.
You'd be hard pushed to find pictures of drought plants dying of thirst and those that are drowning in any publication anywhere!

YET the leaves of BOTH PLANTS often look the same - all wilted looking.

So the plant that is drowning looks like it needs water (wilted leaves) and the owner adds water thus compounding the problem.

A plant is much more likely to survive being ignored and not watered than one that is constantly having the owner fuss over it.

Beware. Plastic pots have their advantages but they do trap moisture more than terracotta which has the advantage of breathability.
