I've been looking for the species Lotus berthelotii for some time, but in the meanwhile have been growing this hybrid of Lotus berthelotii and Lotus maculatus. Both are from the Canary Islands. I love the vivid color, and it spreads rapidly and is a good trailer as well. This is one I have to keep cutting back to keep in its bounds in the garden, but it's not invasive.

The more lotus I see, the more I like the species (...except corniculatus, the one lotus I know of that is hardy here). The flowers on yours look like flames. Gorgeous!

I've seen this in a hanging basket at my local nursery. Nice to know the name. Lovely photos David.

Oh, oh, oh. I think I am growing this. It hasn't flowered yet but it's supposed to have red flowers. I have it in the "dry" (I can't really say dry since we have had so much rain. I quit emptying my rain gauge and it is just staying full) herb bed by the greenhouse. Those are gorgeous. I hope that is the one. I'm looking for the tag but I think they just identified it as Lotus with red flowers.

They are wonderful container plants for us on the east coast but they will not bloom unless you grow them in a greenhouse. I have a few in my containers in the back. I think I grew the one David is growing when I was in CA.

Very exotic looking and I have to agree with the flame look. Is the plant laying over on the side of a pond? I've never seen lotus look anything at all like this...very cool.
