You know who is the happiest of all gardenbuddies today? It's MEEEEE...
I have been gaping at the pictures of David_B's Caryopteris divaricata for over two years...
It took me one year to find it in continental Europe, with the help of some of my belgian gardening friends.
And it took one more year to have the first flowers...and this morning, look !!! Here they are !!! YEPEEEEE!!!!

No, no, this is not exotic, this is not a shrub, this is not clerodendron ugandense...it is a hardy (for me, at least) superb perennial, 2 feet high, with the cutest blue flowers and antennas that you could dream of...like a flight of blue butterflies... don't you agree?
And it is still in a container ! Next year, once planted in due soil...it should be spectacular indeed!!!
Thank you once more David_B !!! (by the way...where are you, David???? I would so much like to have some news of your new garden !)

Zeph, I found this to be such a neat looking one and different from the 'regular' caryopteris I have. I did some checking and found some info about it. Thought you might like to read what I came up with. It's so neat to be able to finally enjoy it's lovely and unique blooms after the long search. Hope it's a real joy for many years! caryopteris divaricata

Congrats on finding it Zephirine! I have the variegated cultivar and I adore it also-it's almost about to bloom. Great foliage all season even in full sun and beautiful flowers-it can't be beat!

Oh ! Thanks Tanya, yes I did enjoy the reading very much !
Interesting plant indeed, isn't it? And what a delicacy... It amazed all my visitors this week-end ! Every single one of them wanted their own cutting !!!
By the way...do you know if it is easily propagated by cuttings, and when and how?
I tried "heel" cuttings (i.e. pulling off a whole secondary stem from a primary one...I don't know the exact term in english), and several stem cuttings with various stem diameters...just in case.
The article says it self seeds profusely. I will have to check for seeds in parallel then !
The plant I received had several starts in the same container. Does it run somehow in your garden (like kerria maybe?)?
Oh..It's so wonderful to be able to ask questions from people who actually grow the plant you just discover yourself...thanks you so much for sharing your knowledge !
Monique, finding a variegated caryopteris divaricata is the next challenge ! Even more difficult here !!!! Lucky you ! lol...

Zeph, I found a place online to purchase these but they're only in 2" pots...pretty small, huh? I was wondering how I'd overwinter it being it's so small. Think I'd be better off trying for Spring?

Zeph, I grow both. My green one was started by a friend from seed. My variergated one was a birthday gift from David B. They bloom very very late here, so no blue is showing yet. The variegated one is now quite popular here and can be found in many nurseries as 'Snow Fairy'. It is a smaller plant than the green one - which I have never seen for sale.

It will be a while before you see photos of David's garden. He is very busy with other things at this time.

Here is a link for purchase of 'Snow Fairy.'
I have grown the green one for about ten years, and it is a very easy perennial, always returning and blooming with NO care at all.

The garden I got mine from has many seedlings all over the place, including in the pavement cracks so I guess it does reseed where it's happy. Very pretty flowers but all should be warned that the leaves have an odor similar to salvia nemorosa.
