I have a large clump of white Shasta Daisies. Can anyone tell me how to keep them from sprawling out and falling over without staking them? I'm cleaning out the flowerbeds and they are very close to going on to the compost pile. I also bought a red perennial Hibiscus last year that has not bloomed this year. It has tons of buds but they don't seem to be growing. It was very slow to get going this year. Here it is Sept 1st and I don't think it will bloom this year. Any tips? It is in a sunny spot.

Can you put stakes toward the back and run an unobtrusive stringline around the front of the clump, or is this too much staking? No ideas on the Hibiscus, maybe a serious fertilize and water would help it along, tho they don't usually want much fussing. Explain to it that non performers will be selectively composted, and see if you can scare it into action?

I use those "Y" stakes. They take no time, are easy to use and support the plants beautifully. I usually put them in just before the flowers start to open.

I guess I should have said that I do stake the daisies. I guess what I'm asking is, is there any Shasta Daisies that have strong stems and don't flop all over the place.

Yes, there is, Becky daisies, they are still in bloom. They are very sturdy plants. I am planning to get rid of the others and divide this one in the Spring.

Monique, they are a stake that has two metal flexible arms at the top so you can surround your plant. They come in lengths in one foot increments from one to four feet. Very handy! I'd put a link to a pic from the site I get them but I don't know if that is 'legal' here.
