Out of 3 we bought last year only this one survived as i had nowhere to overwinter them then. Its still small but has one floer open and another bud, now where shall I plant it???

I agree with Mara, it's not Polish Spirit, but it sure looks like Arabella or perhaps even Juuli. Both are fabulous season long bloomers, as well as non-clingers and they will need support when they are planted. I think you may just come to LOVE this mistake in tags ! Suzy

But this plant was sent as an offer from a well known UK gardening magazine, writen by expert gardeners, but pics of Polish Spirit do look darker than this flower, which is blue with a yellow centre.

I'm afraid it died-I left it too long in the pot and Jack Frost claimed it!

If it is Arabella, then it has probably just died down for the winter and will sprout again in the spring.

Larry, I can see you're new to clematis, otherwise you'd know that they are the most reliably mis-labeled plants around. I remember the photos, and it was almost certainly Arabella, and certainly not Polish Spirit. But in either case, it won't have been killed by the cold - they are very hardy, even in pots.

I received a Polish Spirit as a gift about 15 years ago. Since then I've been able to start many new plants from it. Here is a poor quality pic from a print I scanned, of 3 vines at about 4 years old on a 3 foot fence.
I really like this one. The flowers are small but there are so many of them.

Andy, WOW! It does seem to have Polish spirit... Larry, a little winter cold can not kill that kind of specimen :)

Hi there, I am new to this site and already loving it!. Interesting topics, interesting people, interesting picks. I am a collector of clematis with Polish origin and that's my problem. I can not order any plants from Europe or USA and can not find any on line nursery in Canada with a large variety of clematis. Any suggestions? Ela

Well, I planted a Cotoneaster shrub in the back garden, a litle wildlife garden there, and I planted the clematis next to it so that it will grow up throught the shrub giving colour.
