I've had a hard time finding a ground cover to have these grow through, since they flop about unappealingly without some support. The ajuga this year is just the plant, it seems. These are actually pink, by the way, but my camera refuses to admit that:

What a great idea, Mike! I love the combination too.

Indeed, the perfect solution! Don't you have problems with slugs chewing them up? Mine never looked as good - apart from the flopping - because of slug damage.

Those are so cute. I have not seen those before. Are they bulbs? Mary

Mary yes they are. It's a bit late to order them for this year as most places are already sold out. Try Park Seed next year, they usually have them.

Not so much as possum and racoons trampling over them. I think most of these are in rather dry area, some mulched with stones, so relatively slug-free. Plus, ajuga seems to be resistant to slugs. Thanks for the compliments, and yes, it's probably too late to add these this year. Colchicum and fall crocuses (are these the same things?) are usually planted in the later summer/early fall. I got mine from John Scheepers/Van Engelen.

Thanks for the tip, Mike ! I'll remember your idea, for sure ! I have planted some in containers this fall, and was delighted with them. That burgundy and green ajuga makes a dramatic background, too...which one is it, do you know?

I've tried to identify it, with no real success. I know it as "Mom and Dad's ajuga". This year I purchased some 'Gaiety', which seemed similar, but its leaves are a much deeper purple. Not the same, but a lovely one.
