This is one of my favourite plants from my collection. It's C. purpurascens, and it won its foliage class yesterday.
Another one of my own plants, this time C. cilicium forma Album. This plant also won its class for C. cilicium in flower.
The C. rohlfsianum below won best in show for foliage. Not one of mine!
Below is a very nice C. persicum leaf.

Oh, what a day you have had! All your hard work has paid off with so many honors. Congratulations again Tim. I am so happy for you. And how lucky am I; I have one of those C. purpurascens in my collection now!

Wonderful plants, Tim! Your plants look perfect. I can see why the rohlfsianum won. I don't know why but my plants have really long floppy petioles. Never seen a persicum like that. It's like the venation was illuminated.

Congratulations on winning your ribbons! They are both beautiful! Tim wrote on Sunday, October 30, 2005 - 11:05 am:The C. rohlfsianum below won best in show for foliage.
I can certainly see why it won "best in show for foliage"!

Congratualtions Tim! I very much like your C. purpurescens. That C. rohlfsianum is interesting too.

Tim, your purpurascens has that kind of leaf pattern I admire so much in this species. A very nice plant. Good to see that it has set seeds. The leaves of that rohlfsianum is breathtaking but the flower stalks seem very short???

It's an annoying trait of the species, Matthias. The leaves often come up around the flowers thus hiding them. If one is to exhibit a plant, it's important when bringing the plant out of its summer dormancy, to give it enough water to do so, but not so much that the leaves start to develop quickly too. Very tricky and I admire very much the few growers who get it right every year. You'd need a glasshouse for this one Joseph. Not hardy at all. Grows in a small part of Libya, where it is rare. Not widely grown in cultivation either, which is a shame as it's an attractive species. It's a challenge too, which is a bonus in my book. I like that persicum too, Carol. I know the owner of the plant, and he grew it from seed he got through the Cyclamen Society seed distribution scheme. It has flower buds and this will be the first time the plant has flowered.
