First two photos are of my own plants, both C. purpurascens. Recognise the plant in the first photo? It won its class at the September show too.
Next photos are of C. mirabile. The second photo shows the fimbriated petals in nice detail. Plant in photo 1 is C. mirabile 'Tile Barn Nicholas' and plant in photo 3 is the silver leaved form, 'Tile Barn Anne'.

I love that c. purpurascens which won in the October show. It is so soft and dainty looking. From the 1st photo of C. mirabile I would have thought it was c. coum 'christmas tree' pattern. Goodness this is so confusing. Other than the plants flowering at different times, are there any other differences? Maybe one of my c. coum that is going to flower is really c. mirabile?

Have a really good look at the edges of the leaves, Terry. You'll see that there is some scalloping, which isn't present on leaves of C. coum. Any chance of a photo of your coum flower bud?

Thanks Tim for the advice, it really takes years of growing to know these subtle differences (or labeling each of the darn pots in the beginning!). As far as photographing the flowers on my c. coum 'christmas tree' go, not yet Tim, they are still very tiny. As soon as I think they can be seen I will post a photo.

They are nice, aren't they Ann? Like most, I can't walk past such plants without sticking my nose in and taking a deep whiff of the coconut scent! They were very nicely grown plants.

Now I never thought to smell the flowers when I was at the autumn show! I feel self conscious enough taking photos of every plant! However I must remember to do that next time. I'm also glad to hear it's not just me who struggles with the lighting at these events!
