Wow, this tiny seedling of Prince Charles germinated in only 33 days ! I could hardly believe my eyes when I looked at the pot today. Every now and then, one lone seed germinates well before the others. This is the record here for germination of any Large Flowered Hybrids that I have planted. I have examined the seedling closely to be sure it's not a weed and it sure looks like a clematis to my eyes. A few more days will tell for sure. Amazing if it is what I think it is! In the past, Prince Charles seed has averaged about 6-12 months for germination.

Roelie, this pot of seeds was planted without any hot water treatment. Sometimes, I'm in a rush and don't have time to wait for the seeds to soak. You should try planting some seeds, Roelie. It's great fun to see the first flowers. And now and then, you will get a few 'super germinators' like the one above ! About Debbie's list, I also have the new REVISED list, if anyone wants it. It's really nice. Debbie deserves a lot of credit for the amount of work she has done to get so many hard to procure clematis ! Suzy

Suzy, I'd love to have Debbie's revised list. I had her email from Jeanne but I think I lost it. You sent me some Prince Charles seed. I've only had one germination from them but it looks real strong. I have my hopes..... Katie

Ton, I will show pictures once the leaves have fully come out. I am also in dis-belief ! It looks like a clematis. In a week, I hope to know. This may be a record or it may be a weed. I am hoping and also believing it is a clematis. Suzy

Ladies I am completely sold out of "Ian" so no more fighting over him. That would be a one of a kind clematis that only a select few could contain in their garden! I had a good laugh when I saw him listed for sale on my list on Roelie's site. I'm sure he did too. Thank you Roelie for putting it on your space! Debbie

I could not get the list on my page and talked about it with my friend . On my computer I took it away and she did not know this and put the list on. My own'blackpaid gardner' I pay 8 euro so this is a bargain for 14 dollar but the problem is has the post a box for him to sent ?

Too funny, Debbie ! LOL. Gimmeclems, I've had some lovely seedlings flower, daughters of Prince Charles from Bill Birds garden. Some are clearly Vitticella types and he has said that a Viticella clematis is nearby to his PC. The seedling you saw posted is from my own PC seed, which is next to the Duchess of Albany and Viola. I wonder what parentage traits I shall see in my own PC seedlings ! It's a really interesting experiment. Here, you can see a few of my first P.C. seedlings grown from Bill Bird's seed: http://photobucket.com/albums/v371/Suzymac/2004%202005%20seedlings/?start=20 Suzy

Fabulous, Suz-- I hadn't seen them grouped like that. Lots of hard work there. I can't wait to see what the seedlings from these will look like. Did you get much seed from them in 2005?

Sorry to let myself and others down, but this seedling just keeled over and died. I have no explanation. It was treated with fungicide. So it goes with seedlings....some are strong and some are not. I don't usually lose seedlings. I should have waited before posting my excitement. Lesson learned ! Suzy
