The Clematis henryi is a beautiful white species. The flowers are very fragrant. The plant is evergreen. I do not know how hardy the plant is because there are only a few plants in the hobby and I must have some rooted cuttings first. Flowering time is jan-march. There are a few plants from Vietnam. Clematis "Henyri" has already been named and has been available for years. Why would they name another Clematis with the same name instead of a different one? Yes, the flowers are quite different, but another name would be less confusing!

No, this henryi is the real species from 1819. The other is a hybrid. As you see I write Clematis henryi(1819) and the hybrid is Clematis 'Henryi'(1870). If you read in the better clematis books then you find the explanation.

Ton is absolutely correct. The name of the large flowered hybrid only stands because it was named such a long time ago, well before the rules as to naming were agreed. If it were to be named in a similar way today, that would be an unacceptable name.

Thank you very much for the explanation about the species Henryi and the hybrid form. Now it makes sense!

Pretty flowers, Ton. I really wish I could smell the sweet scent, though.... Someday, I hope to visit you and smell this one for myself. Thank you for showing all your unusual species plants ! Suzy
