I know this is the wrong season to ask GBs for recipes. But just in case someone steps in from the garden to visit this forum, I have a request! I have been asked to send a baked good (cake?) to school for an event. During the spring concert individual desserts are sold (fund-raiser). This is one of the nicer events- candles and flowers on the tables in the gym. I am looking for a recipe that could be easily cut and still look nice on a plate! And taste good too! Any ideas? Thanks.

Black Forest Cake: 12 to 16 servings 1 package (18-1/4 ounces) devil’s food cake mix 3 eggs 3/4 cup water 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling, drained with 1/2 cup sauce reserved 1 cup (1/2 pint) heavy cream 3 tablespoons powdered sugar 1 container (16 ounces) chocolate frosting Preheat the oven to 350°F. Coat two 9-inch round cake pans with nonstick cooking spray. In a medium bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, water, oil, and the reserved 1/2 cup cherry sauce; mix well. Divide the batter evenly between the cake pans.. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes then invert onto wire racks to cool completely. Beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form; beat in the powdered sugar. Place a cooled cake layer upside down on a serving platter and cover the top with half of the whipped cream; scatter the cherries over the whipped cream. Place the second cake layer over the first and frost the sides with the chocolate frosting. Frost the top with the remaining whipped cream. Serve, or cover loosely and chill until ready to serve. FINISHING TOUCH: For that elegant finishing touch, top the cake with chocolate curls and additional cherries or chocolate-covered cherries

Success! Pussywillow's black forest cake was a big hit. Really pretty, I didn't get to try it because it was the first to sell out. Tomorrow I will be baking Linda's lemon cake and Jeanie's tea cake for a potluck picnic. Monique, I just love your cupcakes. Please tell me how they are decorated? Are those fresh coconut curls on top? I have only seen grated in bags. Also, where did you find the pretty little flowers? Thanks everyone for helping me bake. TODAY, I AM GOING TO GARDEN!!!

Glad to hear the cake was a big success. Colleen Monique; your cupcakes are just lovely. What decorating tip did you use for the flowers?

It is grated ..but very large.. in a bag at a market I go to:) The flowers I made..out of gum paste..I used a mini cheese cutter:) I now have proper cutters but have not had time to stop and make the flowers:) Too busy tending the real ones these days.. Thank you.. Glad you had success!!
