Many of you are posting pics which show a super color reproduction, particularly of those difficult blues. When using film, I always accepted this limitation but am rather disappointed with how my digital Canon PowerShot G3 handles these. It would be interesting to hear what cameras you have found to be the very best.

I used to use a Nikon Coolpix which turned blues purple by adding too much red. Now I use a Panasonic Lumix that turns reds purple by adding too much blue. That seems to be the choice. I deal with it by routinely correcting colour in Photoshop.

I use a Nikon D200 and I have had more camera's but every time I must find the right conditions. You must adjust your colors with the white balance f.e. purple needs shadow, blue needs clouds. Then you can adjust the colors with eV -eV gives better colors in blue etc. Later I will show the difference in settings.

I use a Sony H1 before that Sony 717. Both have some trouble rendering SOME reds and SOME blues properly. Time of day, light and fiddling with WB helps a little and PS takes care of the rest. I find my clematis tend to photograph close to true while red roses and blue irises do not. I think some of it had to do with the way the light interacts with the texture of some flowers. Just my opinion you realize.

My camera is a Nikon D70. I shoot in manual mode and take several shots while adjusting aperture and shutter speed until I get what I think is a fairly true representation.

A D70 for me as well, though I never post anything that I don't see as the correct colour match. If that happens, usually because of light conditions, then I adjust in Photoshop until it matches what my eyes see before posting.

The background has a large effect on the result, since some years ago I started to use a piece of white card to introduce on one side of the pic, this changed the colour composition totally, just got a new camera and are pleased to see this, thanks Ton

Ton, That is a very impressive show of how the colour is affected by various conditions/settings. Also, at work I use an extra monitor hooked up to my laptop and there is a large colour difference even between the two monitors when looking at the same picture. Patty

Thank you Ton for taking the time to show the different settings. It certainly shows the benefits of getting to know your camera well. I will be buying a new camera within the year and like seeing the differences through everyone's pictures.

Thanks for all your helpful comments, Ton especially for showing us the effects of eV and white balance. I now know that its not a matter of getting a different or a 'better' camera. I don't really like having to rely on Photoshop to get the right effect, its OK to pick a flower from your own garden and take it to the computer but you need a good colour memory if you are photographing in somebody else's garden.

Hallo Ton, never before I have been checking these possibilities of my camera. So I thank you for that little lesson too. Greetings Marion
