Thought I'd just show that I do actually grow a few LFH types (the ones that survive wilt anyway!) these are a couple which aren't seen all that often, plus I couldn't resist at least one 'small but delightful'. First the original 'Princess of Wales' - nothing to do with Barry Fretwell whatsoever.
Then 'Walter Pennell'
Finally a seedling with albicoma as the seed parent and an unknown pollen parent, but quite likely to be crispa. Hope you enjoy them!

They are very charming Keith! I didn't realize there was another P of W...lovely! WP is very much like Vyvyan Pennell. Sadly, my VP did wilt, but when it does have a good year, like yours, it's just gorgeous! Yes, that third one is very crispa-esque...

I'm a member of the small flowered clematis appreciation club...so your third photo delights me. Yet, at the grocery store, a ELF clematis jumped in my cart today. "Ice Blue" looks mighty tired from the brutal treatment it has endured there, but perhaps it will like it here better.

Princess of Wales is very lovely. Walter Pennell is on my "someday" list.

Glad to hear they are not totally frowned upon :) I love your crispa. I am so sad that my order for it wasn't filled this year.
