Did you grow this plant from seed, Berthold?

What a huge tuber! And I can't believe it's age!

Carol, your photos are great too. I love that first graecum.

Hello,
it was a small 3 mm tuber from the greek island Lesbos 14 years ago, repotted all 3 years this time in used substrat from my terrestrial orchids. This one is in the greenhouse in Winter. Other graecum are living outdoors in my garden but with the tuber underground due to frost.

That's very interesting, Berthold. I'm always curious about how hardy other species may be in the garden. I'm guessing you've seen plants in the wild. Do you have a picture of that plant in foliage and flower?

Carol,
I did not find interesting leave colours in the wild of Greece on several trips. Second point is spring time due to my orchid interest and graecum is nearly ready.
Sorry, Berthold

having been away I am just catching up on the messages.I am also having camera trouble in that it is giving a blue cast to greens and will have to replace it.

The first picture is of a C graecum with the pattern reversed in that the dark area is in the centre.I have produced two seedlings from it but both are normal. The others are all 'ssp anatolicum'

sounds like its whie balance setttings need adjusting. It looks like its set to tungsten/indoor lighting which adds blue to counteract the red from such lighting.

Hardiness information was given for plants grown by John. What zone and part of the country does he live in. I am in the PNW. Would all those varieties be hardy in my zone 8? I am new to this forum. Thanks. Karen

Tony, I think Larry may be right. Try the white balance and set to "Daylight".

I have just automatically corrected one of your bluish photos in Photoshop and this is the result:

Hi Karen, welcome to the cyclamen forum! John Lonsdale is in PA so he probably experiences colder winters than you-something similar to Carol who is posting here. I would think you could plant out more species in your zone 8. Not sure which of the species would be most successful for you, but maybe Tim could add his comments or read through Tim's list as he is a bit cooler than you.

Hope we see you often.

Tony, your dark centered leaf form is very attractive. It's interesting that the seedlings were unlike the parent plant.

Karen, John lives in Exton , PA. Due to its sheltered location , the garden is protected by a very tall and fairly steep hill facing south. I'm guessing it's zone 7.

thanks very much for your comments on the white balance which I much appreciate. It was in fact set for cloudy for those pictures.I have had trouble for months and cannot get it to take pinks and now greens are coming out blue.many of my pictures from Greece were uselsss.I found a tutorial on the web on how to use my particular camera as I am no expert.I have had this problem before and the camera was repaired at great expense.

Thtas strange cos if i set my phones camera settings to cloudy it warms the scene up slightly by adding red!

sounds like yours does need fixing.

Karen, I think the problem in your area might be the water rather than the temperature. If you are on the wet side of the northwest, you might have to prepare raised beds for some of them to prevent rot in summer when they are dormant. Some of them are more moisture tolerant than others though.

Thanks for the zone information. I do live on the rainy side of the Cascades, but our summers are very dry. Last summer we had less than an inch of rain June-August. So I guess if they can take it wet during the winter when they are actively growing they should survive well out here. I did order some seeds from Seneca hills so time will tell. I just was amazed at the beautiful photos of cyclamen on this forum. I have never seen anything like it. I was only familiar with herderafolia and was amazed to see so many other varieties. I thinked I am hooked already! Karen
