I can't remember exactly when I planted these outside, but I'm guessing it must be almost a year ago. I had a pot of seedlings with only the cotyledon showing and planted the whole thing outside. This autumn they reappeared and are looking good so far.

As most of my collection is going outside this summer, I will have to find more spots for the plants. I have a major problem with tiny slugs at the moment which are destroying many of the cyclamen outside here, so unless I can sort that out, the outside project is destined to fail. Traditional slug pellets don't seem to work - perhaps it is because the pellets are bigger than the slugs themselves.

What an angle that photo was taken from!

It looks so happy snuggled up to the rock. Drainage must be very good there with the gravel path to take away the water. Too bad about the slugs though. I like the leaf pattern too.

For the slugs, you might try beer traps.

Such bad language for a lady, Carol... give my beer to the slugs?! I'm still choking at the thought of it.

Well you could ask your friends at the pub to save you the left over beer from the glasses (or is there no left over beer in the glasses in your town?).

Absolutely not, Terry! I think I'm going to have to go and lie down for a while...

Seriously though, I will have to do something about these tiny slugs though. There aren't any frogs here, or at least I haven't seen any, but we do have toads. Putting the bark chippings down didn't help, as the slugs hide in amongst this. I was checking hellebore buds just popping up through the bark this morning and found dozens of slugs (which are now ex slugs).

I have also made a mistake with bark chippings - slugs love them! I have seen my thibetanus coming through and some crocus with tell tale nibbles around the tips. I'll be slug hunting later this evening I think!
