I planted two year old roots last year. So far, I have picked 5 delicious spears that never made it into the kitchen. What a wonderful buttery nutty flavor fresh from the garden. I will probably not get much this year and even if I did I am more interested at this point in allowing the plants to strengthen and spread. That should result in a much better yield next year and even more in subsequent years.
