http://www.everylawnagarden.ca/ Every Lawn A Garden's mission is for every household in BC to have a food garden (a 'local' food supply) and for every community in BC to increase the capacity of its local food supply through a system of community and local gardens. http://www.durgan.org/Blog/Durgan.html Durgan

This is an excellent initiative, and something I have been giving talks on here as well. It is absolutely imperative for us to restore local production of food, since our current industrial system of energy-intensive production and long-distance transport is becoming increasing unsustainable as oil prices rise (in the US, the average store food travels 1500 miles and uses 10 times the energy contained in the food to plant, harvest, transport and process it). One thinks of the victory gardens in WWII, but that was an era when folks still remembered how to grow food. I think today, most people don't even know where their food comes from..just from a store.

Unfortunately, the public interest is zero, zilch. http://www.durgan.org/Blog/Durgan.html

Too bad. I think it's a great initiative also. There may come a day when some of those folks wish they *had* been interested.
