hmm, doesn't it just slide up and turn to come out? Is it just stuck? If so, I might be tempted to just give it a few solid taps with a hammer to loosen it up.

Does the bowl lever drop the bowl down? When the bowl is dropped down the only thing that secures the paddle to the main shaft is a form in the configuration of the paddle. If it is worn or sloppy it is possible to jam the paddle. This is a job for hubby to use some of his muscle to push up and turn.

It won't slide up at all ..The bowl comes up and down..The whole appliance is squeaky clean..Not worn at all not shabby at all.Like new.It just won't push up to be able to twist and release.
One of the men that looked at it was very big and seemed very strong..he pushed..Nope..

I still say give it a good solid whack with a hammer from underneath to try to loosen it up so it will slide up.

If you do make sure you use a rubber hammer.

I received a reply from Kitchen Aid yesterday suggesting I wrap a warm wet towel around the paddle shaft..and put some more warm water..Leave it that way for 20mins..
I did..To no avail.
Greg..I worry about harming the mechanism of it.It surely would be rubber as the mixer attachment has a white fragile coating.
I wish someone around here knew what it is..It was the quizzical look of both repair places that made me bring it home..
Plus they keep it until they know what it is.
This gets used the most here by myself.
Thanks guys.

I wonder if you put plenty of boiling water in the bowl and let it sit in it and get good and hot and then try again. I'd just keep trying to wiggle it, it sounds like something in there has it locked up. I just went and looked at mine and I can't figure anything else out.

It's fixed!
After getting up at 5.30 this am to do a few things for the weekend..I was a bit cranky over my mixer and said I was going to use a rubber mallet..Later in the morning ..the mallet found it's way upstairs ..I gave it 2 knocks (ohsogentlyasyoucanimagine)and turned..It Moved!
I am back in business,
I am certain it was the mallet..
There is a doubting Thomas here however.

Congrads! Now so this doesn't happen again replace the pin going thru the shaft where the attachments attach. Most likely this is your problem and has caused rounded corners from usage. Don't be surprised if you can't see the worn edges. This is a do-it-yourself project. Here are your guidelines.

1. Have in your possession a new shaft pin. Purchase this at your local repair shop or over the Internet.

2. Lock onto your old pin with a pair of vicegrips. Make sure they are tightly locked onto the pin. Now slowly rotate the vicegrips left to right then right to left in quarter turns. You should see the pin turning, if the vicegrips are spinning on the pin then tighten your vicegrips. Now gently pull on the vicegrips the same time you are twisting left to right, right to left. There you go ... the old pin should come right out.

3. Install the new pin. Do not clamp down on the new pin. You do not want to damage the contour of the pin whatsoever. Push the new pin in has far as you can with your fingers. Now place a small wood clamp with one side on the side of the shaft and the other side on the end of the pin. Slowly tighten the clamp until the pin sets to it original spot. You may dip your pin in mineral oil if you would like before applying the clamp.

If you do not change your pin then you will find your attachments getting stuck more frequently. Don't forget to place the spring on before replacing the pin. I hope my explanation is more than just a few lines. :-)

Congratulations, Monique. I had no clue - never had a problem with mine. Is there a warranty on the machine? Perhaps Kitchenaid would replace it (or parts) for you.

Hi Susan..I have had it for 6 yrs..nary a problem..You get so used to something that when it isn't functioning your normal work in the kitchen isn't as pleasurable..all is well..I will look into a replacement pin..So glad I didn't leave it at the appliance doctor.Too many things to do in the next while.
Life in the kitchen is back to normal.
(How trivial compared to problems..But I knew I would get an answer here)
Thanks again

Thanks.
