This spring in a trade I received a very tiny piece of a hardy begonia and put it into a very small pot. It quickly grew due to our plentiful rains and now is in the shade garden putting on a show. mary

I really like that Mary. I've never seen begonia leaves so big! Sure looks healthy and beautiful.

This plant is on my "must have" list. In the spring, one of the local nurseries allows early orders from their pick up only catalog. I had 3 of these on my order and not one came in :( So much for local sources. This winter I'll hunt it down from a mail order source.

Begonia grandis is a wonderful old pass-a-long plant. The plant makes bulbils in the leaf axils (like tiger lilies) (but isn't invasive for me). All you need are a few bulbils :) Btw, from growing it in Oklahoma, it doesn't (not surprising with those big leaves) like getting dry at all. Mine here have never done as well as plants back in Arkansas (100 miles farther east and much more humid/wet).
